clear water

Today I fished a lake that was by far more clear than any lake I have ever fished.I could see the bottem in 8 foot of water .I was wondering if any of you fish water this clear is it odd for a lake to be this clear?Most lakes I fish are stained and I can only see down 1-2ft.

I fish several of them all the time. It's like fishing in a fishtank.

I fish one that's about as clear as you are saying.  Seems like a lot of people have troubles catching fish in gin clear water, but I seem to like it and do fairly well.  I like to physically be able to see the structure I am fishing underwater.  You can learn a lot by watching your bait and watch where bass are hiding and then you can incorporate that into other lakes you fish.

Yeah, I have fished clear water.  I was out this morning in water so clear, i could see down 20 feet!  Yeah 20 feet.  I noticed the fish were beginning to school up and they were very tough to catch.  

They would follow the baits, and about the time the get to within 5-10 feet of the boat, they would casually turn and move away.  It was like they would look up and say, "SHSSSSH, : There's a guy with a fishing rod in that boat"!!  Very frustrating ???

Het Abelfisher are'nt you in CA? Wha lake were you fishing Oroville, Shasta? I've fishined in some really clear water myself, I could see the bottom in about 10-12 feet of water. I noiced that I caught alot more fish when I made a really long cast.

I fished Lake Englebright.  Probably not the best lake, however.  But I only have a 12 ft boat so I can't get it on the bigger lakes.  But I am going fishing on Oroville next Saturday with a buddy.  He has a bigger boat and we are going late afternoon and doing some night fishing and early AM fishing on Sunday.  I've never fished Oroville before...any suggestions for hot spots?? ???

I suffer the same issue.  One pond in particular, the water is stained and I just slay em, the water is clear as it has been all summer I struggle.  Most of the fish I've caught so far is during the low light times.  I've tried downsizing but still suffer cause I know there are plenty of good fish and some hawgs as well.

I can't remember the last time I fished really clear water.  My lake right now is full of weeds and very stained.  The water is also really warm.  Hi 80's.  Fishing is tough.  Any suggestions?

I fished Skiatook lake in Norhteastern Ok yesterday afternoon, hit the water at 1pm and fished until 5pm had to work till 10am or i'd have been there at daylight. Anyway, I had 3 keepers in the boat by 2pm visibility in the area I was fishing was about 5ft and I was dragging a split shot rigged fluke (watermelon seed) around a weedline and laydowns in about 3-31/2 ft  of water, surface temp in the mid 80's.

I was making long casts parallel to the weeds so I didn't see any of the fish before they hit.

I fish the gin clear waters of Bull Shoals several times each year. This particular lake is all about structure, there is no cover, no vegetation whats-so-ever. (So what do the baby fish eat?)

Anyhow, long casts seem to be important. We fish the windward side of primary points targeting smallmouth and walley. Secondary points and coves seem to produce more largemouth, Kentucky and white bass.

I think white and black/silver are productive in all water, but especially clear water. On this particular lake, green is always productive. Blue, blue/silver and blue with an orange belly have some particular attraction, too. I have had good luck with a Gitzit, baby diaper yellow on most trips. Another consistant producer is a C-rigged lizard.

I remember fishing a REALLY clear lake in some state park south of jacksonville,it was probally 15-20 ft. deep and you could see straight to the bottom.It was fun watching them bass inhale those worms
