Ok,at the moment i really dont have a way to get around,so im stuck fishing ares that are in walking distance of me.I found a small lake in some woods that has a few spots to fish from the bank,i have fished it a few times and have caught nothin besides a warmouth and a big bluegill off of a 3in Grub. There really isnt any cover or anything to fish so it is hard to key on where i think the fish might be.

So if you were gonna fish a small lake in the middle of the summer with no cover where would you think the fish would be,and what would be a good lure to use.

Im still not even sure there are bass in it,but if there are warmouth and bluegill there should be bass.

PS,this forum rocks!!!!!

Jax, try a Carolina rig.  You can throw it a long way and cover a lot of water.  If you are not familiar with it here is how to rig it:

http://www.bassfishingusa.com/Rigging/rigging2.html

Cast it out, let it sink, and drag it back to you using the rod tip.  It stays in contact with the bottom, stirs up a mud trail like a crawfish, and and can get deep if need be.

You certainly want to cover a lot of water since there's no apparent cover to fish. I'd follow Reb's suggestion about the C-rig; I'd also try to be there during low light periods and try topwaters.

Thx for the tips,i think ill try a Carolina Rig.

Marty,Ive already tried some topwater at Dusk with a Floating Rapala minnow and had no sucsess  :'(,but next time i go back i think ill throw a small buzzbait or something.

I own a small pond and it seems the only thing that the bass will bite is a regular old power bait black worm.I have tried everything for a time but the good old black worm seems the best...Try it ! ;)

Good Luck !   Try fishing with just a worm hook and a black worm  (only)    Work worm off the bottom around the bank..Happy Birthday in 15 days..I know how you feel my daughter turned 18 in January she was glad too... ;D

On second look there is cover around the edges, but its impossible to fish from the bank.

Did you see any fish? Any signs of fish life at all? If you go again, fish in all the weads you can. This looks like one of those lakes where you almost half to have a boat.

Solution :  Find all areas where it is possible to make a cast from the bank. A short rod may help with casting.  I would use a zoom tiny brush hog in watermelon red  rigged with a 1/0 EWG Gammy red hook and a 1/8 ounce slip sinker unpegged. A white spinnerbait would also be a good bait to try. Cast into and around any weeds, or other cover. there may be other cover on the bottom that you cant see.  Still no fish, I would tie on a worm rival (available at wal-mart)  and see if i can get some small bass or bluegill. Good Luck!

You ever think of geting a float tube? They are great for ponds like the one pictured. You can strap it to your back and they are pretty light. And you can get into alot of tight places a boat couldnt. I used one for about three years till I could afford a small boat.

The Bass have been really tough in my favorite fishing hole as well.  But I've had pretty good success with live leeches, and occasionally I get hits on a craw-looking crankbait.  You might try live leeches.

I'm a novice bass fisherman I just took up bass fishing last year. I fish a lake similar to yours but with a lot less cover and I do 90% from the bank. I have found that things just change and you have to figure it out. Fish are in one place for a while then they will be somewhere else. Lures very sometimes only spinnerbaits work sometimes crank baits and sometimes plasic worms or swim baits. I have never caught anything on a true Carolia or texas rig. I just tie on the hook and put enough split shots above it to be able to cast ( 1 -2 small ones). I'm sure this is in large part because of me being a newbie. Sometimes nothing works and fishing mid day is always tough to me. The one constant I have found is fishing at dusk for the nex 45mins to 2hrs is always the best. Fish sideways along the bank about 7-10 feet from shore. Fished last night and caught 2 bass and 6 channel cat fished today mid day and only 2 bites in 3 hrs.

Good luck and keep us posted

Yeah, I think the bass are under those overhanging tree branches, there's so many of them. If there's nothing wrong with the pond that is.

I also think the bass are under those branches and vines that hang over the water.I dont think there is anything wrong with the lake because i have seen alot of movement and signs of life in it,and i have also caught some bluegill and Warmouth out of it.

I need a boat!

Seems like a nice lake for a float tube!
