Boo Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Anyone have tips and tricks for fishing weedless spoons? Fished a Johnson Silver Minnow this past weekend but missed 3 hookups before I gave up. Just couldnt drive the hook all the way. Used 7ft Med/Hvy baitcasting rod with 20lb mono. All help, tips, tricks, and secrets for fishing this lure will be appreciated!!!!!!! ;D Quote
Guest avid Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Sharpen the hook. this often overlooked detail accounts for more lost fish than anything else. Quote
Shad_Master Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I agree about sharpening the hook, these lures don't have the sharpest point, but they are good offerings around pads and reeds. I have never tried a trailer hook on these things, but if conditions allow that might be an option. Quote
7Lbass Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Yes sharpen the hook...I use a dremel and take the hook point down in diameter a little.... I like to use the White 4" uncle josh Bass strip as a trailer....Iv'e had to resort to this lure when the Bass were blowing a rat out of the water and not getting the hook ups... This lure will literally fall in thier mouths when working over and through weeds.... Heavy Rod and Heavy line is a must....Set the hook hard.... Quote
Guest B4553R Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Yar I get them big ol' basses come leepin' right out a the salad to slam-a'-lam a big ol' Johnson Silver Minner. Anotha good junk weed bait is the spoona'buzza'bait the Pantha Martin Weedwing. git luky soon'''B4553R Quote
YaknBass Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Braid Virtually no stretch will give you a better hook set and if that bass gets bogged down in the slop the line will do a li'l garden trimmin' in the salad. Quote
Boo Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 Dangit I did forget to sharpen the hook point! Anyone ever put a 7inch worm as a trailer? Quote
