If you plan to use them as a jig trailer, the Baby Paca Craw is the ticket. 8-) Quote

And the the Paca chunks are great too! just my two cents worth! 8-) Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The Berkley Chigger Craw with its solid body design works well for a jig trailer or as a t-rigged bait and holds up for quite a few fish. The claws stay on the bait through several fish catchs. Depending on the what you are using the Chigger Craw for would depend on the size. You can always buy the 4" and pinch it down to the size you need. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 Owner Wide Gap hook when fishing these t-rigged and fish both the 3" and 4'' size on 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs. Down South I have used the 4" on a 1 to 1 1/2 oz jig when punching through thick hydrilla with good success as well. I have used both the Paca Craws and Chunks and while the Chunks make a good jig trailer, the claws come flying off way too easily for me. The hollow tube of the Paca Craws do not lend themselves well as a trailer on a jig. The hollow tube design as well as the soft plastic tears up very easily. T-rigged they seem to hold up a little better, but not as well as the Chigger Craws. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I never really fished the chigger craws t-rigged. There not something I typically reach for. I use them as a cheap jig trailer alternative. Like if the fish are pretty aggressive, and theyre hitting the jig left and right, instead of using up my ragetail chunks or pacas, I'll cut a chigger craw in half and use that. Quote
Jake. Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I like the 4" Chiggers as a jig trailer, but if your going to fish a Texas rig more often I would go with the Baby Paca Craws. Quote

I like the Paca chunks as jig trailers, and not many claws come off for me. The Chigger Craw will last for a long time but, the Paca chunk has alot more action! The Paca and Baby last long enough for me,they catch a ton of bass. Quote

I used to hate jigs when I used chunks like the Paca Chunk and Zoom Chunk, but then I switched to baits with a bigger profile like Flappin' Hogs and Chigger Craws and never looked back. The difference was night and day for me. i think it gives the jig a better fall rate. But on a Texas rig I like the Paca Craws a lot. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 11, 2009 Super User Posted January 11, 2009 Easy choice, get some Paca Craws instead. 8-) Thats the best advice I have seen posted here in ages. I have tried the Chigger craws, as well as the similar Yum Craw papi, and the Paca Craw blows both of them away. Neither the Yum or Berkley have "THE" flapping action the claws on the Paca Craw have. Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 11, 2009 Super User Posted January 11, 2009 I fished the Chigger Craw today in a golf course pond with some success... On a related note, does anyone use any additional scent when fishing Chiggers or other Berkley baits? Just one of those random questions I have... Quote

Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted January 12, 2009 Super User Posted January 12, 2009 Sorry I turned this into a craw debate fishin boy. (I'll try not to be so opinionated )I just can't stand berkley baits. For the 3 inch I would use a 2/0 extra wide gap hook and use a 3/0 EWG for the 4 inch Quote

tyrius. Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I'd go for the 4 inch ones. If you want to use them as trailers you can always pinch off part of the body. I don't know what hook I'd use for t-rigging them as I never fish 'em that way. Paca craws are good too, but chigger craws are also good baits. I LOVE berkley's scents. good stuff. Quote
BassinBoy Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 4 inch Chigger Craw is where it's at Best craw out there 8-) Quote

Actually the best "flapping" craw trailer I have ever used for the action in the new Ragetail chuck. I just catch more and bigger fish on the Berkley Chigger craw. Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 12, 2009 Super User Posted January 12, 2009 To each his own. 4" Chigger craw is my # 1 trailer. Pinch some off for more compact bait. Great action and fish don't spit out Power Baits. Tried Pacas and they seem to tear up pretty easy. Great action though! Get a bag of Chiggers, Pacas and Rage Craws and make your own choice. Send me whichever ones you don't like. ;D Quote
