Hot Summer Action

I know a bunch of people will disagree with what I am going to say but here goes. I read a bunch about fish going dep in the summer. I do believe there is bass deepe but I don't think it's because of the heat. I think tehy are there all year long.I fish a very deep lake in Ga. that has long points and humps. You can be fishing around 100 feet of water on a fifteen foot hump. Though I catch fish there most of the time they are schools of 2-3 pound fish. I catch some of my best summer fish in the far back of creeks. 2 Days this week in 95 degree temps I caught fish in 2 feet of water. day 1 7 fish in about 4 hours. The biggest 6.5 and the small fish was 2. The same thing Saturday I fished the back of a creek and 2 of us caught 18 fish in about 3 hours and you guessed it 2-3 feet of water. This pattern has produced for as long as I can remember. Try something different while everyone is pounding humps and points get by yourself and go shallow. Baits of choice. Buckeye Spotremover(standup jig with 4" finesse worm) Junebug t-Rig with light weight, Floating worm, Jigs.IMO

Sounds like you have found a good pattern.I tried some of the spring fed creeks that are cooler water temps.Haven't had as much luck as you have.When I go deep in the summer I only go to about 10- 25 ft. of water.I had 2 fish last Saturday one was 6 lb. 14 oz. and the other was 6 lb. 4 oz.off of ledges in about 15 foot of water.I wish our fish would stay shallow in the summer but the biguns' usually don't.

Oh yeah and about the heat.You may want to look at the water temp in those creeks or if their is alot of vegitation.You may have heard this before but the fish look for higher oxygen levels not for cooler temps.If they have cover or structure,food,and the right oxygen levels you could probally find them in any depth.

The temp is over 85 but lots of vegatation which raises O2. I think that is the key. Like I said early this pattern has worked for years. The funny thing is it really does not matter if the sun is out or overcast. There is just enough cover to keep the fish there. I can't wait till Tuesday when I get to go again.

I fished a lake last month like that the water temp as in the 80's air temp was in the 90's and I caught fish in no more than 3 ft deep. If it was a individual tournament instead of a team tournament I would have won but those are the breaks I guess.

I agree, all the bass I've caught this summer have been in less than 4ft of water.

All around vegetation. Lillypads and weeds.

But, nothing over 5lbs although I lost 4 fish Monday that got back into the thick stuff on me and came off, They were good fish just not sure how good.

Biggest one we boated was 3 1/2lbs.

Bass on summer days will be shallow early or late in the day....water temp has a lot to do with the position of the fish cause of oxygen quality the warmer the water the less oxygen is there...bass do like deep water of course especially near run-offs and humps where they can just chill and wait to ambush baitfish.
