Night Fishing and the Full Moon Rising

The other night just after dark I slayed the bass.  Living in eastern Ky 8 bass a night at our lake is nice.  I caught 11 in 1 hour between 9 and 10 o'clock.  Then later the full moon came out, seemed as if I had to switch baits 10 times before I found what the bass had changed to hitting.  Does it makes a difference in bait colors before and after the moon rises.  Sorry for the ignorance but I'm a beginer all help would be appreciated.

I have a feeling that your sudden good luck had more to do with lunar cycles then bait color. I never was really up on fishing with the moon since we always went when we could, moon or no moon. I tried to find something in the articles about it, but didn't see anything. As far as why they stopped and started back, I don't think fish feed constantly through the night, also the school could have moved and the same, when they started biteing again. The color may have played a part, but at night I wouldn't think that it would be a large one. I don't really know for sure.

Sound and scent sometimes seems to help also at night.

Hey Skeeter2221, when I'm fishing at night I use dark or black colors... I'm looking forward to fishing the new and full moon in July. I usually fish the largest black worm I can find... I normally won't catch a lot of small fish. The bite is usually big, hold on. The jitterbug in black works well also.

I usually go dark colors myself at night. There was a post the other night and one of the replys was use white on the bottom for contrast, haven't tried it yet but plan to give it a shot when things get slow.

If you have enough light from the moon you can change colors to white and chartreuse and still hammer fish. It kinda like early morning light fish can see them in the moonlight. I used a white spinnerbait and Bandit spatterback lures at night and caught 20+ fish one night. A jig and pig with a chartreuse trailer works at night too and you can see the trailer to help you put the bait where you need it.

I've always heard that if you are fishing a bait that will be above the fish(topwater,spinnerbait,etc...) that you should use black or the darkest color you can find.Reason being is that the black or dark colors create a better silouette against the background of the sky(because they're looking up at the bait).

If you are bottom fishing a worm or a jig,the color doesnt really matter as much as sound and smell matters.I will fish a black worm at night but I am not afraid to fish a light colored worm if they arent hitting the black.I catch fish on all color worms at night.Black is not a set-in-stone color for me at night.I will switch until I get a bite.

Well since the thread began I haven't been able to fish to my potential.  First the ol powerstroke rearend went out going to the lake and last night my black light quit.  I still caught 8 using the sappire blue.  The sky was black and rain was on the way, but 8 fish the lake i was on was pretty good.

I fish by the moon charts on outdoorlife.  I have caught my biggest bass going by these excellent/best times to fish if the weather conditions are right too it can pay off bigtime.  I go anyway wether it says good or not but i pay special attention to what i'm doing during the excellent times to fish.  Just match up the moon with a front comming in or during the rain what a frenzy that happens.  Just stay going and sooner or later it will happen.                         BB
