Has anyone picked up the new book by Iaconelli, "Fishing on the Edge"?  I just ordered it and was wondering if its a good read or not.

I am not exactly what you call "a person that likes to read".  I read the book in three days, could have read it in one day.  Good book IMO.

I am reading it right now...so far I like it.  I am only a few chapters into it but I have found it interesting.  I am at a tuff spot in my fishing right so I am hoping that it will inspire me or help me get my focuss back.

I need an easy read that is still entertaining and Ike's book looked like a winner to me. Not the biggest fan of his on the water antics, but at the same time I think he is one of the best people I have heard at explaining techniques and strategies.  He really seems to be a good teacher.

I am in between books at the moment and I have just 29 days before I have to pick up my full time reading "job" again.  To briefly explain...the new Harry Potter book comes out in 29 days.  Almost 2 years ago, my four-year-old daughter saw the first Harry Potter movie and she got hooked.  I watched them all to make sure they were on the up and up and I ended up liking them too.  I made the suggestion to her one day that she should let me read a chapter a day of the Harry Potter books to her at night before bed...and since then we have been doing it every night.  We are about half way through the 5th book "Order of the Phoenix" and the 6th book, when it comes out in 29 days, I will have to read it first and then re-read it to her.  I called it my "job" cause the dang books are on average 550 pages each.  One was 750 and the shortest was 340.  Its a good thing I actually enjoyed them myself.  Later guys.

I'm not a fan of his "antics" either,But he is a great bass fisherman.I'll buy it and read it because I want to learn whatever I can from a Classic champ. If I'm not fishing ,I want to be reading up on anything that can help.

Well, I guess I am gonna have to buy it.  There is no question, that joker can fish.  Hope it is more about fishing/technique than personal biography.

I was hoping I wasn't a loner in my feeling for his on the water 'antics'. The screaming, my goodness, it drives me nuts.  You know the old school guys want to just whip his little #$s.

Can't really say I approve of the cover, I mean I see the point it's trying to get accross, man against fish, but I find it...to be honest...Kinda disturbing...that fish is clearly not doing too well. I know it was probably already dead or was gut hooked and wouldve died anyway. But that ain't exactly the image we need. PETA will have a field day.

I have not and probably won't read the book.  I also think he over cooks his "act"  The dude can fish though.  I never cared for Roland either and I inherited a old fishing library and picked up a Roland book the other day and started reading...it is good, but old....Besides when you fish everyday it is hard to find time to read.  I have alot of candles and I am planning to read these books during the hurricanes this year  LOL

WARNING:  This book is probably 75% biography and about 25% technique (the technique portions are pretty basic stuff).  Still a good book in my opinion.  I also used to think his antics were kind of an act, but after reading this book I can see where it all comes from and I think that's just the way he is.

While many people may not like him, it is a book that's easy to read and pretty entertaining. While yes there may not be much devoted to technique, if you are really going through the book there is alot about the mental aspect of fishing the pro tour. It's a quick read that may help you understand some of his on the water reactions.

personally, I like his antics. It is good for the sport. Did you see all the kids flock over to him at the last tourney? I hope my wal mart gets it otherwise i will take a trip to borders. One question, would cabelas carry it?

I too, am not a big reader except anything I can about fishing.  The book is really good, and I  think after a person reads it, you will be able to relate to his antics a little better.  Personally, I like the dude, I believe he really wants the sport to grow and he can fish.  I def. have more respect for these pro's and what they go through to do what they love.  Good book, read it in three days.  That's saying something for me.

I agree with the fact that its great to get kids involved, but wouldn't it be better for them to look up to someone like KVD or another icon such as him rather than someone who mistreats and has no respect for the fish themselves. IMO this sport does not need that sort of publicity, its not like baseball or football where there are an unlimited # of balls to play with. The fish population could easliy be wiped out by the growth and popularity of fishing, say if 10 times more people went fishing these days and kept their catches, that would drastically hurt a species or the population. Just my 2 cents.

The book was a decent read and I do see where he comes from now more than I did. With that being said I think a person can get very excited about a fish that my win him 10,000 dollars, without moonwalking across the deck of his boat. No dout he is a good fisherman but super loud yelling and screaming does get old. Just my opinion.

Well boys, Ike really seems to get you all revved up.  That is exactly what this sport needs.  I know in my tournaments when the fish come in the boat, it is a time for celebration. If you don't get excited maybe your a little bored and need a change.  The reason you see him screaming all the time is because ESPN wants it that way.  Put yourself in Ike's shoes, if that will put you on the TV every tourney & in front of the sponsors, then work it for all it's worth.  The income stability comes from the sponsors.

Now for some of you calling him an idiot, maybe a quick look in the mirror will help clarify.

I got his book at the book store Friday evening. I finished the book last night.

I do have a new respect for the man. He has worked hard and works hard for each tournament. I'm sure the other anglers do to.

I enjoyed the book very much. I still think Mike or "Ike" could tone it down a bit.

Mike Iconelli is by far no "idiot".  You bet he knows what he's doing.  He's creating an image that is so different from other anglers to get attention (good or bad, here we are posting messages about him).  I'll give him the knod for being one of the best anglers on the tournament.  When he first came on the scene, I tolerated his antics and found them somewhat entertaining.  But, I, too, have gotten tired of him screaming like a lunatic with each 14 incher he catches.  My disapproval is now final after hearing ESPN bleep out many expletives on the Elite 50 Lake Lewisville tourny program after he lost a fish.   One of you mentioned that the kids were flocking to him at a tournament.  I really wouldn't want my kids idolizing this kind of behavior.  Unfortunately, controversy creates lots of media attention in this country.  As long as he catches fish, he'll continue to rake in the $$$ and there will be plenty of following for someone like him.  He's kind of the like the "Happy Gilmore" of the BASS circuit.  Although, I like Happy more than Ike. LOL

God bless,

Fisher
