Kelso Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Hi Everyone, My wife and I recently retired and bought a beautiful home in Tennessee on 20 acres with a large 3 acre pond(sm. lake?). The gentleman that built the place 20 years ago specifically built the pond for fishing and from what I have read about pond management, he really did it by the book. There are some really large bass in here with the largest so far was 2 years ago and was 10.5lbs. My largest was almost 7 just last week. I just started really getting into bass fishing about 4 months ago and I am really enjoying it. I've been reading all I can and enjoy this forum. Yesterday I cast out a top water popper and 2 fish hit it almost at the same time, maybe a second apart. I was able to bring them in and get this picture from my phone. Does this happen very often? Each fish grabbed a hook! Thanks... Quote
Yankee_lake Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 actually one time me and my friend were fishing near the same spot and he says i got one that the exact moment i do... we both real in to the suprise that both our rapala jointeds were in one pickerels mouth.... looks like he bit both too, its not like he ran into one, it looks as if he went for both Quote
Curado Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Thats happened to me a few times on a pop-r, big spook, and a jerkbait. But it doesn't happen alot. Quote

Nick_Barr Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I have never had that happen, except with 4 inch smallmouth, I have heard it happens on crankbaits, never knew it happened on topwaters, good catch! Quote
davmac Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Nice catch Kelso!! And congrats on the retirement. I know I'm wishing my life away but I am SO looking forward to retiring. Just curious..are by chance related to Sterling Marlin? Quote
BD Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Never seen that for sure. The closest I have ever gotten to something like that, was I caught one black bass, and there was another one running right beside it. Had I thrown a crankbait or a long minnow, maybe?..... Nice big hawg you got there. the 3 acre pond sounds mighty lovely too. ;D Quote
razyrsharpe Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 i've never done it...but i watched my mother several times reel in 2 crappie at once while fishing two seperate hal-flies (red head, white buck hair) tied about 18" apart. darndest thing i had ever seen! Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 1, 2005 Super User Posted June 1, 2005 That has happened to me oftenly, jerkbaits excel in doing that. ;D Quote
Hookhead Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I've had that happen to me on a Frenzy 'fire tiger' crankbait. I caught 2 larges at once. One went 14 inches and the other 16. The cool thing was that I was with my my kids when I caught it. They got a big kick out it. Quote

Super User 5bass Posted June 1, 2005 Super User Posted June 1, 2005 On the cover of Bassmaster Magazine a few years back,a dude is holding two 5 lb+ smallmouth-both attached to a chartreuse DD22.....imagine the fight that was! Quote
CBedo Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I have caught two largemouth on a 1 oz ratl-trap before. I couldn't figure out what I had, since with both trying to pull different directions, it was a weird feel at the end of the line. One was about three pounds and the other was about a pound and a half. I've done it a few times in the fall when the fish are really schooling and feeding heavily. Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I'm happy if just ONE bass jumps on may bait! ;D Brad Quote
fun_all_wrong Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 The funny thing about catching two fish at once, is you never really know what you have. most of the time the fish are fighting each other so hard that they don't really fight you all that hard. The two bigger fish I got just felt like weight... Quote
2_Poppa Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 KELSO, Great pictures with your post. Years ago during a bass club meeting one of the fellows had just got back from Florida fishing for large bass. They were fishing in very clear water with golden shiners, large ones. The fishermen had just tossed the bait into the water when it started swimming away from the boat. Two large bass were racing for it. An 8.5lb bass inhales it first, but somehow the shiner worked its way back out of the gill plate of the first bass. Immediately, a 10.8lb. bass completely swallows the shiner. :-* The RESULT... Two fish-- Total weight--19.3lbs. We told the guy B-O-L-O-G-N-A ! Two weeks later I'm looking at a bass boat that was just purshased from bass pro "Harold Allen." The guy that bought the boat mentioned he just got back two weeks ago from fishing with some buddys in Florida. We asked him if he fished with "Charlie _______?" His reply. "Yes, you wouldn't believe the fish he caught." We replied," no we wouldn't." Out came the pictures with two very large bass' with monofiliment line coming out from the gill plate of one... Great Pictures Kelso, they speak a thousand words... : Quote
