Three Little Words

There are three little words that make life go round.

Three little words that make women happy.

Those same three little words make people cry.

Three little words that when said get you places.

Three little words that make your heart race.

Three little words that make every thing disappear.

Three little words that everyone should live by.

What are those three little words?

The intersting thing about those three words is that when you pronounce them the net is nowhere to be found !

Just make sure you actually need the net when you say it.  two weeks ago several of my co-workers and i went to lake wateree for a weekend get together for fellowship and fishing.  late friday night we were all catfishing off of the pier when one of our fellows sets his hook hard and yells "get the gaff!"  10 seconds later he reels in a monster cat that weighed all of 1 pound!  he won't live that down for the rest of this year, i promise.

Since the subject of nets was brought up. Why is it that it seems like in tournament tv shows no one uses nets aren't they taking chances of losing fish. Do they use nets when the cameras are not on them.

Some feel that the net slows them down. While it may bring the fish into the boat quickly, sometimes the partner is not ready with the net in time or hooks get tangled in the netting. Even the best of nets still get hooks caught sometimes.

Personally, I don't ever use a net for bass as I have no trouble landing them without and I get things done faster without it.

But for anything else (pike, carp, catfish, trout), the net is always handy!

Nets are illegal on the Bassmaster Tour. Don't know offhand about the BASS lower level tournaments or the FLW.

"6. TACKLE AND EQUIPMENT: Use of dip nets is prohibited during tournament competition. The use of grippers in landing bass is prohibited."

FLW  can use nets and most of them do most of the time

i yelled those three wordsmany times and once in the summer i had a four pounder on and my friend netted it and therewas a hole and the fish slipped right through it!Oh Well. luckily i ought a brand new one and it works fine(hook-proof)

You all need a rubber net, they don't tangle and never get hooked. I'm not kidding, it's one of the best investments you can make.

I agree with Roadwarrior the rubber nets are worth every cent no tangles no time loss, little stress on fish before you release it.

Those rubber nets are fine until you have a hook puncture all the way through the rubber. Then you either have to cut the barb off the hook to get it out. I prefer coated nets. Like the bassmaster series.

I can surely say those three little words can sure be costly if you need one and don't have one with you too.  I fish from shore and who thought i'd ever need a net??  I fishing from a 3' high bank that is a deep drop off(man made road/dam).  I thru a crankbait(my Hank Parker special) and i latched on to the surprise of my life.  The fish was about 26"+ long and was completely silver and my guess it weighed around 6/7lbs.  It seems I latched on to a Salmon because i'm fishing a small body of water thats fed from a large lake.  I heard that years ago they stocked it with Salmon.  Well as my "no net" story goes rather than try to lift it and lose my lure too I let my line go slack and let it go.  It had baby sized square teeth also.  I was fishing alone with no way to reach it.  So I did the unthinkable and let it go.  So the "get the net" really sinks in deep with me.                                                  BigBill

My Hank Parker Special is the Manns crankbait baby 1 in crawdad brown.  Right after seeing HP use it in New Hampshire  I went to Walmart and got a few of them.  After having success with them I went back to Walmart and bought the rest of the rack of them so my kids have them too.  Plus you always lose one or two of your hottest baits so i carry two of them with me at all times and a never ending supply of them at home too.  And yes that goes with every successful bait i use i have extra of everything.

In my opinion rubber nets are not good.  

In my old job I used a net everyday....all day.  I used the rubber for a while- it is good for not allowing the hooks to become entangled and I believe it may help protect the outer slime coating of Trout.

The negative with the rubber net is how slow it moves in the water.  A rubber net is heavier and the holes and diameter of the rubber cause the net to create more drag in the water..creating a slower move to the fish.  

On regular fish the rubber was not the problem, on bigger fish (when you really want a net) if you did not time your 'move' right and tried to reposition or scoop the fish you would feel the resistance and sluggishness of the rubber net.

we all have that story where if i only had the net.

about 2 months ago i hooked the biggest bass ive ever hooked. I knew when he wouldnt surface that he was either gonna be a huge one or it was a d**n soft shell turtle. but when he did surface, he looked like a tarpon coming out of the water. atleast a 13 pounder, i have my fishin buddy to back me up on it. i thought i had finally wore em out, and brought him up beside the boat. my buddy almost had his hand in his mouth untill the bass made one more dive and snap went the line.
