a 3/0 hook in my wives cheek....

A couple days ago me and the lil' lady where out fishing.  I just had pulled out a brand new 3/0 Gammy worm hook.  Texas rigged a red shad Senko.

I noticed I had a small birds nest starting on my baitcaster.   When this happens I like to cast it way out in open water and then reel it back onto the spool real tight.

Now mind you,  I had it rigged Texas style.  Would you believe when I came back to cast the lill lady had stepped up towards the front to get a bottle of water out of the cooler and I nailed her right in the cheek.  17lb. test line on a 7' flipping rod.

Scared me to death.  I tried to get it out,  but this was her face we are talking about and plus it was way past the barb.  On the way home I kept saying how sorry I was and she kept saying it was her fault.  Ended up in the emergency room to get it removed properly.

Guys and gals,  just a reminder to take a peek behind you before casting and if you do move,  remind the other person you are right behind them.

Still amazes me the odds on that hook getting her when I had the tip of the hook just barely exposed.

Man I would be reading through the "don't understand posts" and trying every thing that is in their for a while.  That had to have hurt and scared the heck out of her.  Hooks can get you, it amazes me almost evey trip I haven't run one thru my finger yet, almost but not yet.  I had two large snagging treble hooks on a line, cast out and hung them into my back.  They didn't go in past the barb, but I sure hopped around in an interesting fashion for a while, tying to get them out.

I'm usually able to hook myself past the barb all by my lonesome, don't need any help from others.

I had this exact thing happen to me when I was eight years old. I was fishing with my dad, I went to the front of the boat to get a soda out of the cooler then POW. Felt like someone had just smacked me in the back. A 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap nicely placed in the middle of my back. Those treble hooks went in deep! So I too had a trip to the emergency room. So I feel for your wife, but things like this help us to remember to be careful. Did she get a tetnus shot? That was the worst part about my visit.

A few years back my wife and I ended up in the emergency room to check up on a freind that was rushed in there. While sitting in the waiting room something seemed odd about the little boy (8 or 9 year old) sitting across from me.  All of a sudden I realized he had a hook sticking out the side of his cheek. He, his brother, and his mom explained to me what happened, same old story. I could tell the little guy was pretty nervous so I told him not to worry, the doctors have new and painless ways of getting hooks out. After some continued reassurance from me he seemed to be doing pretty well. Finally a nurse came and took him into  the back. After a couple of minutes we heard terrible screams coming from behind the closed door. I looked at my wife, I looked at the boys family, then I calmly got up, kissed my wife, and informed her I'd be waiting in the truck. Then I ran as fast as I could out the building and across the parking lot. To this day I can't imagine how bad that little kid wants to kick my butt!

my dad likes to fly fish rivers, and one time he had on a steelhead in the st. joe river, he fought it for a while, but then the hook came out and flew behind him, he went to cast again and the hook got jabbed right in the back of his head. he had me cut the line, he put on a new fly and continued fishing, even with a hook in his head. when he was done, he had to go to the ER. to get the hook out. what a true fisherman

When my son was 8 yrs old. I took him fishing at a local pond/lake for stocked trout.  We were using Rooster tails.  It was in the evening time and in early spring.  The trout starting breaking surface near the middle of the lake and we needed 20 more yds to reach them.  We saw a log laying flat in the direction we wanted to cast.  So, there we went trying to balance ourselves to get a bit closer to the action.  I let my son stand closer towards the middle of the lake and I was about 10 ft behind him.  On his first cast I heard the Roostertail whizz by my right ear.  I cautioned him and asked him to cast side arm.  Well on his next cast he hooked my jacket and yep, there I went for a swim.  I couldn't see any trout underwater though, lol.  Needless to say my son was terrified, and yes the cold water does take your breath away for a moment.  We had a good laugh once I made it to the shoreline, but the lesson was learned.  He always checks behind him now when casting.

my older brother hooked my brother in law in the forearm years ago and it resulted in...you guessed it...a trip to the emergency room.  the bro in law still tells that story to this day.  of course my brother does to, but he remembers it differently of course.

My dad hooked himself in the ear while Fly Fishing...now he wears a fly as an ear ring . I've hooked myself in the lip, past the barb. I didnt feel a thing though. Dont ask me how, because I'm not telling.

I had my beagle in the boat a few years ago,fishing on top with a Heddon dying flutter.Then a swing and a miss and a beagle with an earring.Opps!

My biggest fear was the dog shaking it's head before I could remove the bait but she was really good (for a beagle) and sat while I cut the barb off and removed the bait.Thank god for small miracles.
