BD Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Do bass hang around the pumhouses concrete base? I have heard they like pumphouses, and the lake I go to often, has a pumphouse in the water. It's kind of hard for me to fish it from the shore, but do you think it would honestly be worth me checking out, or just stick to my cove I go to with alot of mil-foil off the bank? Quote

D.Taylor Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 The kind of pump houses I experience are 1 of 2 ways. 1 they pump water from drainage areas into the lake or river that im fishing. The other kind I encounter are discharges from power plants or sewer companies. Both are excellent fish holders in the summer except for the power plants. Generally the water coming from these are cooler and cleaner and the baitfish swarm to them. The ones that pump ditches dont run on a schedule. These change the way the youfish the areas and the way the fish position in the area. A third kind is the hardest to fish they are aerator bubbles in the middle of a body of water. Fish susepnd all around these and I still havent caught one from them. Dusty Quote

The only thing that sucks about this pumphouse, is A) I am not sure if it's taking water out to run electricity, or if it's pumping water below the surface back in. I wouldn't think B since that wouldn't make to much sense to me. I also noticed turtles flocking to the pumphouse and I had tons of them mess with my trick stick. Quote
Muddpuppy Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 If it is a large cement structure, especially if it is older in age it may be an intake for city or community water, possibly industrial. Most of our electrical plants use some sort of cooling tower to drop the temp before it is returned to the lake. I would think that there would be a plant of some sort nearby if it is for return. The water temperature in that lake will probably remain "alot" warmer than the others if that is it's purpose. Quote
