This site is definatyl one of the best sites i have found on the net for bass fishing.  I think it would be cool to have forums for different areas of the country.  Being from Minnesota, a lot of the topics and articles don't apply as much as they do in the south, mostly dues to about three feet of ice that comes every december.  Just a thought to see if more people would support it, but dont get me wrong, i love the site.

I here you man.  This site is terrific but I too have noticed a bias toward the South.  God bless 'em all but Wisconsin and Minnesota are a little different.  I'm learning a lot about fishing in general but I'd love to get more details about local techniques and tips.  Guess I should just pony up and hire a guide for a day of education.

Hiring a guide is the best investment you can make to advance your fishing skills. I fish with guides several times a year and always on new, big water. Most of a big lake is not productive, but it all looks good!

I think bass are fairly easy to catch if you can find them and that's where a guide shines. He can help you with lure selection and technique, but most importantly he can put you on fish.

As far as a bias towards the south, well I live in Tennessee and haven't really noticed that, but there is a bias towards largemouth vs. smallmouth.  Maybe that's why there seems to be a regional slant. Still, there are quite a few smallmouth fishermen on this site and everything we talk about will work in Minnesota and Wisconsin. At least everything will work when your water's not frozen!

Gee Craig I wish I could help you more with your baits n 'techiques to apply them to them Minnesota conditions but I can 't add more, here we only have two seasons: night and day; the only ice fishing I have ever practiced is fishing for ice cubes in the cooler.  : . Can 't you just move south ?  .

ONE of the best sites? ? ? I would love to see one that compares! And I am with Raul on this one. I live in Kansas and I am seriously going to move to Texas soon ONLY because the bass fishing is so good down there...oh and also because the woman said so.

Dig around a little in the past post and I think you will find there are alot of people from the northern regions. That is part of what makes this site so neat. You get views and tips from a variety of places. If you try to get too area specific it will just resemble all the other sites that we dislike so much.

I agree on the fact that this is a great site Glenn you do a great job and should be very proud. I dont think it needs forums for different areas but needs general location that you are from mentioned. Also some times the abbreviations that are used are confusing to members out of the areas.

Hey thanks guys, ill check on some of the past posts and look at some guys' locations.  I didnt mean to take anything away from the site, it is great!  And as far as moving south, if Scheels opens a store down there id gladly relocate.  Thanks to all and good fishing, i still have 3 weeks till bass opener.....booo.

Yeah youre right, but I have the same problem with walleye fishing articles. Seem like most walleye fishing articles are based on fishing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Canada. I fish for walleye on deep canyon reservoirs of the south and southwest part of the country and have tried them Northern techniques and they dont really apply to this area. You just have to take different things and tweak them a little to fish your fishing enviroment. This is a great site with lots of information that is helpful, just tweak and  change it a little.

Great point!  This site has allowed me to take my fishing from the "toss a lure and pray" phase to more refined techniques that I never would have imagined before.  I will continue to take what I learn and refine them to see what works best in my local area.

I would have to agree on both issues. I have only been a member of this forum for a couple months. This is one of the best i have visited, it is why we all return to this site. Great job on the site.

The other issue i agree with is Craig's point. I was raised in the south but relocated to the NorthWest 16 yrs ago. You cannot use the same presentation and expect to catch the same quantity/size of bass. We are not allowed to use live bait.

Northern Pike feed on bass up to 12-16"

In the Northwest there are no shad. Hence perch, bluegill (small numbers though) crawdads, ect.. seem to be the diet bass are "brought up on". I have caught Largemouth & Smallmouth that have eaten perch that are half there body length.

The size of bass are much smaller due to the shorter growing season. Example, Montana State Large mouth is 8 1/2 lbs. and Smally i believeis 6 1/2 lbs. I "think" Oregon's record Large mouth is 12 lbs and a few ounces.

So you see, we must use different tackle & presentation. We do not have the structure in the high reservoirs that you fella's have in the south. We do not have the rising water levels when rain decides to fall. We have run-off from the high mountain snow.

We must primarily fish the drop-off's, points & what few weeds we can find.

The depths, temperatures & wind conditions are also not the same. Most lakes in the Northwest aren't even on Navionics maps so you must become familiar with the contour of the lake the old fashioned way. Bass do not spawn in the NW until mid May thru mid June. Last weekend the water temp was only 54 to 58 degrees. I have yet to see the temp's rise over 74 degrees all summer here.

The good fact to this is we are not as populated with bassfisher-"people" as you are in the south. There are plenty of other species to pursue.

Would a regional forum be beneficial, absoulutely!! Will is have the traffic that a southern forum will, i'm afraid not.

It's the best site I've found so far.  As a general rule I have several sites that I visit for different things in my life...fishing, automotive and martial arts.  Each catagory has one site that is a real stand out and this is the one for my fishing catagory.

That's quite a compliment!  Wow, I'm humbled.  

I have tried as much as possible to include articles for the northern climates, and do have quite a bit on the site.  However, the southern-slanted articles indeed outnumber the northern (with many thanks to a great partnership with HoneyHole Magazine).

That said, I can only post what I receive.   :-/

I'd welcome article submissions regarding northern climates (such as those already submitted by Craig DeFronzo, J.T. Bagwell,  "Big Bass Rich", "The Bass Coach", Jeff Boyer, Larry Gonzcy, and Ed Telders, to name just a few), so feel free to submit them.  All I ask it that you follow these guidelines.
