NyKid777 Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Hey Guys, I'm new to the forums, and basically bass fishing in general. I'm from new york and i live on oneida lake (google it!) I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on how to get the real hosses out of the marina near my house. It basically has 3 inlets, about 50 feet long where the boat slips are. inlet one is long with heavy vegitation ie. lily pads, grass and moss (this inlet isnt used anymore for boat docks) . inlet 2 and 3 are both heavily used so vegitation isnt a problem. The water is usually pretty murky, but it can get clear in the summer time. these inlets are probably about 8-10 feet at the center, 2-3 feet at the edge. there are some drainage pipes which pump run-off from the road into the marina that i usually get some big bass out of aswell. I usually use strike king spinner baits or tsunami crank baits...are these the right kinds to use? I try to throw the line out in the center and angle it around some lily pads. the biggest i've gotten out of here was a 7lb large mouth, caught on a yellow strike king spinner bait. Today i lost my 2 best lures so i'm wondering what to replace them with.... i'm 15 years old so i need to pick the very best, as i need quality not quantity! Thanks guys! ;D 8) Quote
Josh256v Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 BOOYAH!...bait company. gotta love the Booyah Blades. i dunno if they suck or not, but i like and have had great luck, Terminators are good too. I'm new to spinner baits, my buddy got me addicted to them, everyone here from what i've seen will probably tell you to get some Senkos, they are sweet too. and as far as crankin' i'm not sure... just my $.02 Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 8, 2005 Super User Posted May 8, 2005 :)Try using some topwater,pop-R's,spooks,moss boss(frog bait in the pads}, I think you get the idea. But fish them slow or walk the dog. Dan 8) Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 8, 2005 Super User Posted May 8, 2005 the biggest i've gotten out of here was a 7lb large mouth, Hey kiddo, welcome. If you're getting seven-pounders in NY, you oughta be answering, not asking. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 8, 2005 Super User Posted May 8, 2005 sounds like you're doing ok to me!!!have you eve tried a grass jig in the weeds? Quote
NyKid777 Posted May 8, 2005 Author Posted May 8, 2005 Wow thanks for all the replys already!! I haven't tried any special rigs on anything really complex....i haven't tried any soft jigs or anything either.... Actually i take that back, i did try a mister twister Rat thing but a bass took it on the first cast and tore it right down the middle. Seeing as i have no source of income besides mom and dad, things are hard to replace. I also happen to lose lots of lures in the trees, overhanging near some dock inlets. You can see the bass flipping around in there and going nuts and i just cant help but try to get a lure under there. This usually results in 2-3 losts lures a day....sigh lol. So i'm done to mostly my walleye fishing stuff, all my bass stuff is either on the bottom of the lake or in trees, or stuck in some lunkers mouth lol. Can you guys please elaborate on these special lures and methods!? Dumb it down for a rookie! ;D Quote
Muddpuppy Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Do you practice casting without trying to catch fish. Set up some targets in your yard to simulate your fishing conditions and just practice. If you can get where you are able to get under the low limbs on the trees, without loseing tackle. Your dad may gladly spring for extra lures if your not looseing them as often. The big ones are going to be where they are hard to reach. The quieter and more precise you can deliver a bait, the better your chances are to catching the monsters. I am not implying that you cast poorly. I keep a reel rigged that I throw at the house a lot. Have you checked out the articles at the top of the page? They are in the green bar at the top. There are some about casting techniques and tips and a lot of other information plus what are offered on here. Quote
