How/where do bass hit it?

Where do bass hit a bait?  On the head end, tail end, side, bottom?   ???

On most of the reaction baits I've been told the head end but I'm not for sure about that completely. With a worm or jig I think they just suck that dude up off the bottom anyway they can get it!

I imagine bass usually are looking down at worm baits and are probably aiming for the center.

Of course when they open their mouth, it creates a vacume and sucks in water and watever else is in front of them.

Like everyone else though, once in a while I'll set the hook and feel the hook pop off the worm. In those instances I assume the bass accidently didn't inhale the whole worm and only got the tail end of the worm in it's mouth and left the hook part out.

Perhaps. But my bet would be that when you feel two or more hits, but the bass won't commit enough to get a full hook set - it's probably a dinky little bass picking at it.

The big one's usually give just one solid thump.

I had a guy tell me last year that when you feel that double bump and come up empty, what is happening is the fish is sucking the bait in and blowing it out.  He suggested that I try putting some scent or attractor on to help them hold a little longer and it worked.

Bass inhale the bait by opening the mouth and flaring the gill covers, like GD said, it creates a vacuum effect. Bass can inhale a bait and spit it faster than you can imagine and if you 're not looking at your line you will never notice you had a strike.

Bass will hit a bait anytime it makes them mad or their just flat out hungry....most of the time I will pause a bait and the bass will eat it or strike at it on the fall of pause then I fill my line or watch it count to 2 sec then set hook....but to answer you question it really depends on lure size and how aggressive the bass is.

IT's been my experience that a lot of the time Bass hit the other guys line. :
