abelfisher Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 How was the Grand Opening of Gander Mountain in Terre Haute? How was the attendance? Quote
JT Bagwell Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 It was INSANE. I was told that they doubled the sales that they were predicting. The parking lot was so full that my wife had to park at the far end of the lot when she came back from shopping. All of the employees that I met there were great. The fishing department manager (Patrick) was a super nice guy. The only thing I could have done without was the Duck Calls. They gave each employee a duck call and then they started letting every kid in the store make a duck call. After hearing duck calls all day, I was ready to go nuts. Terre Haute is very lucky. They have an excellent store, with an excellent staff. Plus the store seemed huge. It had a great selection of fishing equipment. They could use a lot more Yamamoto products though. They were kind of short in that department. JT Bagwell Quote
JT Bagwell Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 LOL Man I am serious, those things started driving me nuts. I was trying to talk to customers and all I could hear was "Quack Quack Quack Quack." At one point I snuck outside to give my ears a rest and even that didn't work. When I got outside they had big generators running to power the stuff they had for the kids. Those things were louder than the dang duck calls. We had to stop by Walgreens and get some Tylenol before we headed back out of town. JT Bagwell Quote
abelfisher Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 Yeah, Terre Haute has needed a store like that for sometime. I am glad to know it is there. When I go back this year, I am going to check it out. Terre Haute has a lot of outdoors type of people and a lot of duck hunters. ;D That store will draw from 75 miles all around ...good location. Cephkiller Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 The T.H. Gander Mtn is awesome. I didn't know you were going to be at the Grand Opening, JT or I would have stopped by. I never noticed you were a midwesterner. I just always assume all tournament pros are southern boys ;D I only live about 30 miles south of TH. I plan on spending a lot of time at the store Quote
JT Bagwell Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 It was definately a nice store. Ceph, Unfortunately I am a Midwesterner (closer to Northerner). I live in North West Illinois. To far north but my wife won't let me move to Alabama or Texas. lol JT Bagwell Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 It was definately a nice store. Ceph, Unfortunately I am a Midwesterner (closer to Northerner). I live in North West Illinois. To far north but my wife won't let me move to Alabama or Texas. lol JT Bagwell Won't let yo move to Alabama or Texas? > Well I don't know about Alabama but you should just tie her up and come to Texas. After she's been in Texas a little while she'll come around! LOL! ;D Quote
JT Bagwell Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I sure wish I could convince her, but she is about as hard headed as I am. :'( JT Bagwell Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Does she like the snow or something! LOL! That's where I would start. It rarely snows here. Tell her something about no snow that would benefit her. Don't tell her that, "Hey less snow and ice mean more time on the water!" LOL Otherwise she might beat ya or something! LOL! Quote
JT Bagwell Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 LOL I tried the whole "warmer weather" and "less snow" trick, but that didn't even work. She is really close to her family and the house we are in the process of buying is within a few blocks of everyone. Oh well, maybe I can get rich and just buy a vacation home there. lol JT Bagwell Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Good luck! I know what ya mean about women being so close to family! It's cost me a couple of possible wives. LOL! Quote
Muddpuppy Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 With our lakes and your love of fishing, she could have plenty of free time to go home to see her family. Quote
TommyBass Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Hey cephkiller, where abouts you from? I am also around 30 miles south of Terre Haute (sullivan area) How you been doing locally? Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I live in Linton (so maybe more like 35 miles?). I've had good days and bad. I caught the fish in my photo at Bass Lake about 2 weeks ago, but I haven't caught a good fish since then. My wife is on restricted activity because of her pregnancy, so I have been pretty busy lately. I am trying to do all of her chores as well as mine and work lots of OT at my job to make up for her lack of a paycheck. It's pretty hectic. Wow! That was probably a lot more than you wanted to know, huh? How is your fishing? Quote
squid Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 JT, When our Gander Mountain came to town, they never had a Grand Opening like that with any kind of Pro to help with products and questions. Wish I lived closer...would have liked to come for a visit. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Squid, They had a good group of people there. There were reps from Quantum, Daiwa, Shimano, Rapala, Yum and I think that is it for the reps. Then there was some walleye guy that I had never heard of. Plus I was there working for The Yamamoto Pro Team. Walleye Pro Ted Takasaki was also there and I got to hang out with him for a little while. They went all out and it paid off in sales. JT Bagwell Quote
