Hello there,

I'm a 15 year old new to bass fishing. I've got a silly question. how do u fish spinnerbaits? One book i read says to jig them, and an article on this website says retrieve them fairly fast.

How? Anyway you like! Spinner baits are VERY versitile. The most basic way is to just cast them out near cover, and retrive. You can vary the way you retrive by jerking the bait, stopping it suddenly, speed it up, slow it down, etc. Be sure to look at more of the articles on the website too. Also, try casting it near a fallen tree, and bounce it off the branches while reeling it in.

Steady pace mostly near brush or cover or laydowns...I fish them slow in spring  and fast in summer.

Fish them anyway. they are the most versitable bait in bass fishing

i fish them a couple of ways... pause and retrieve, and a steady retrieve mainly around brush, timber, vegetation, on beds, and around docks and piers.

I like fishing spinnerbaits really slow most of the time. I'll throw them around cover, as everyone has said, and if possible I like a slow retrieve where you just barely feel the blades turning. You can fish them so many different ways it's unreal. Try all the techniques you read or here about. They all work.

Went fishing last Saturday in a big pond around here... me and my brother caught 8 bass!! Kept only three tho. Caught three on a spinnerbait (in the morning and evening) and the rest on plastic worms. You all must be a higher class of human beings, because all my bass seem to have hooked themselves. Anyway, we put them on a stringer. Came back later, and found that a huge snapping turtle had been snacking on one of them. I was very upset. He was sooo big, and soo ugly. His neck musta been nearly a foot long!

EVERYONE starts off thinking fishing = eating fish.

Eventually fisherman realize that while bass are fun to catch, they are disgusting creatures. Take a look at the roofs of their mouths and watch the leaches squirm (not all bass, but a lot). And that's just the stuff you can see - I don't even want to know what else they have. Not to mention most bass live in small lakes which get all the run-off from surrounding areas. Nasty.

Also, you want to be careful not to deplete that small pond of fish. What else are you going to do if you can't fish?

If you still like eating em, that's cool. I know a lot of people who do. Personally, the last thing I want to do after a long day of fishing is cut open the guts of a dead nasty fish.

Yeah, i know whatcha mean. But it's nice (at least for a biginner:P) to have something to show for all your efforts! I sure don't wanna overfish that pond. It's very large IMO for a pond, and i don't think anyone fishes there so i'm not overly worried about it. I don't fish that good yet:P

Eventually, if you need to have something to show for your efforts, the satisfaction of the catch will more than suffice.

I personally always thought largemouth tasted like garbage, but different strokes for different folks. There's nothing wrong with keeping a few here and there, but I hope the ones you're keeping are the small ones and that you are releasing the bigger ones. That seems to be the conventional wisdom for maintaining a good fishery.

me and bassin4life actually just beer baddered a couple bass tonight ;D and i must say, that was some gooooooood eatin... but to me, nothing is better than frying 15 crappie after a long hard day at the lake
