Yankee_lake Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 the lakes half thawed out and the season should start soon, any advice for cold cold water? Quote
OcBass63 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Work a jerkbait slow really slow. You can also use a jig but dont swim it. My favorite bait is a fluke and let it sink to the bottom and just twitch it. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 slow,slow,slow or super fast,super fast,super fast. Quote
cgs2004 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'd stick with the slow, slow slow. And downsize your bait. Quote
Redtail Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I live in New England and just got to fish yesterday for the first time. I used a 5 inch watermelon senko with no luck. I switched to a 4 inch white senko with black specs and caught six all keepers. I guess slow and small might be good advice. Good luck! Quote
STINAR85 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I had great luck the other day here in Illinois with a 5" Storm Rattling soft jerkbait.. Just letting it sink very slowly while rigged weightless, and giving it a few twitches occassionally.. Caught 4 fish in 90 min. last Sunday doing this! Biggest one was just under 3 lbs... the water temp was also about 43-45 at the time. Quote
jake Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'll agree with the guys above. Water temp. here is about 42-43. A smaller jig fished very very slow works best for me. Quote
Danarchy Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I just caught my first smallmouth of the year two days ago, using a five inch green pumkin kinami flash. They were holding in slack water near fast current in 36 degree water. It was just a matter of getting the lure in front of them. Quote
