dock fishing

On the last pro tourney i watched all the bass were under the docks and near the boat launches.. but in a private lake like mine where those always people near the docks where would the fish be.

       There will still be some bass around the docks, but they might be tougher to catch because of the fishing pressure.

Not all docks have the depth or cover to hold fish. If the dock is in the right place no matter who is around it fish will be there. Some dock owners put out brush near the dock and fish can be caught in or around it. Sometimes its not the dock itself that draws fish but how close it is to a depth change or cover that around or out from it. What the dock is made out of and how much of an area of shade it produces will draw fish. If the dock is shaped different from the others will draw fish. Look for dock lamps or rod holders this can be a give away. Find the depth change and position your boat at a 90 degree from the drop off about a cast distance away from the dock and work the breakline on either side of the dock running parallel to the shore. Then position your boat so that you can run your bait in front of the dock to check for hidden bushes. Try to work around the dock before you move in you might find a spot within a spot.

Try a dropshot, it really works on heavily fished docks.

senkos are the ultamate dock lure they skip really easily and you can work anywhere under the dock with them wath for ladders they will hang right by them and if you catch one fish dont leave there may be more dont pass up pontoons ether skip up inbetween them always hold fish

Most of the docks I fish are cantalevered, without any posts in the lake, and they hold plenty of bass.  I hit them with a TRig 7" Zoom Watermellonseed, a 5" Kalin grub on a jighead. Last week I hit them with a white spinner with a Colorado blade and caught 8 in 2hrs.  That was my best day with a spinner.  I start on the shady side, hit both sides and corners.  Sometimes thay do not hit until the 4th or 5th throw.  It's a blast. ;D
