cotterboy2007 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I have a couple of new slender pointers that are split down the middle. Looks like the two halves were not joined properly. I would say it is heat related except they just came out of the package like this. i noticed when I was changing the hooks and removing the front split rings. I also have a bevy shad with the same issue. My question is will Lucky Craft replace these? I bought them last season and the store they came from has changed ownership and I don't think they will honor them . Has anyone ever contacted lucky craft customer service directly? if so, were they helpful. I hope so for a $15+ bait Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 Why on earth would you change the hooks and split rings on Lucky Craft baits? Quote
cotterboy2007 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 I use them for large brown trout and stripers, so I go to a 2x strong treble. the stock daiichi's bend way easy imo. I also put red hooks on the 1st and 2nd hook, and sometimes a feathered treble on the rear depending on the application. I don't use the split ring as I always use a snap instead. Anyway, back to the original question. Anyone ever sent any back that were defective? Burleynator, bet you hated to see your sooners go down to the hogs bb team that lost all 5 leading scorers from last year. Quote
Jake. Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I think that a member on here had a Live Pointer break while they were fishing it and they replaced it for free if what I remember is right. I'm not sure who it was though. Quote
The Next KVD Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I would think that they would replace them. But I don't know if they will if its been a year since the orginal purchase date. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 Never seen this or heard this from anyone, but you have three andit took a year to discover? Must be a little more to the story. Did the original hooks puncture your tires when the accident occured? Good one. My Dear Watson, something smells fishy. Quote

Did the original hooks puncture your tires when the accident occured? Good one. My Dear Watson, something smells fishy. Just so everyone knows, I bought every one of these the store had left before they changed ownership last year around May or so. AS a friend of mine who owned the place had terminal cancer and was trying to sell the place before he died. he made me a deal on a bulk purchase, so i probably bought over 100 baits at the same time. Nearly 75 lucky crafts alone. I really don't remember if the bevy shad was bought then or not as I just noticed it when i was checking all my tackle getting ready for spring. It was already in my tackle box, so may not be related. The Slender pointers have been in a brown paper bag since last spring when i carried them out of the store. I still have the packages they came out of yesterday. They have not been in the water or in a tackle box. I am not trying to bash Lucky Craft, just asking a question of anyone who might have dealt with returning any defective baits to them. As a matter of fact, I have just about switched to using them entirely for my jerkbaits and crankbait needs. I proably have $2500 worth of their lures alone. Thanks bait monkey They have no bulges or anything that would be heat related and none of the other baits I bought were like this either. Years ago, I left a tackle storage container sitting on the deck of my boat and it was over 90 degrees that day. Every Rapala husky jerk in the box exploded, while none of the other baits did. I just asked my bait store buddy about them, and he took them all back and returned them to Rapala. They sent him all new lures at no cost, which he have to me. The only reason i asked was to get some opinions on whether it is worth the time to contact them or not. RW, I respect you, read a lot of your posts, and think you give excellent advice. We have a mutual friend in Tim "hotdawg" Curtis. I live in Mtn. home and used to guide with him when i was in college and even worked at BSLBD one summer. But i can't understand what you are referring to about the rest of the story and tires getting puntured by hooks during the accident. There was no accident. They came this way out of the package. anyway, if you want to bash me and call me a liar, send a PM. The Next KVD. thanks for answering the posted question. I think I remember reading that as well, but could not find it when i searched. Quote
cotterboy2007 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Sorry the next kvd, it was jake who answered the question. Thanks for posting too though. 8-) Quote

I think I remember reading that as well, but could not find it when i searched. I hear you cotter. This has happened to me before with baits. I don't see why is sounds fishy. How many of us have bought lures and simply not fished them for a season or so? I know I have many times. If the Bait Monkey bites me hard, and I buy a ton of lures in a short time, this scenario is very plausible. I'm always finding new, expensive lures in a crumpled up BPS bag. I have also found defects in some of these lures, when I know they have been protected in a hard box 24/7. Most of the time I've just bitten the bullet on 'em, or just got lazy and never contacted the company. The few times I've contacted the manufacturer, I've been treated very well, and sent replacements. It's definitley worth a shot, let us know how it turns out. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 I'll bet you they replace them with no questions asked. Great company. Quote
cotterboy2007 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 I think I will try to contact customer service on Monday and try. Can't hurt to take 15 minutes for $45 in lures. If not, I will still use their lures, as they flat out work. Quote
Pantera61 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 This isn't the first time I've heard about this happening to premium baits. It's generally heat related and most of the time the bait company has ponied up and replaced the baits. Quote
Triton_Mike Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 cotterboy, If your new store deals in Lucky Craft bring them the receipt and they should handle it in good faith. Lucky Craft reimburses the new store with a new lure so they don't lose anything other than sending it in. If the new store declines to replace it you will need to ship it to Lucky Craft. Just to be honest it will take a while (4 to 6 weeks) for your lure to be replaced if you have to mail it in. Any questions email me mbucca@luckycraft.com Mike Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 cotterboy20076, My apologies. It seemed to me that you were just jerking us around, but anyone who is a friend of Tim's is someone I would like to have as a friend of mine. I have deleted my post. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Quote
cotterboy2007 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 No big deal RW, as I said, I really respect your advice and think you do an excellent job on this site. I am more of a white river guy, but when I want to go Bass fishing on Bull Shoals I give BSLBD a call and check in on what is going on out there. Tim is good on that lake for sure. Don't you fish here a couple times a year? Triton Mike, thanks for the reply. As it was a cash deal with a buddy while he was closing out his store, I doubt I have a receipt, but I will call customer service or email you for return instructions as time is no factor since they have been in bag since last spring anyway. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 Only been out with Hot Dawg once this year, last June, but I usually get over two or three times a year. I have been fishing with Tim for the last seven or eight years. Next time, maybe you can meet up with us. -Kent Quote

Glad to be of help. If your shop doesn't take it and your local to a Bass Pro try it there. They are usually more lenient on returns. Either way we will get things squared away. Mike Quote
