Super User Marty Posted March 20, 2005 Super User Posted March 20, 2005 I have a friend who spits on his lures before casting out for luck and another friend who wears a lucky hat. Do any of you do anything or wear anything for luck?[glb][/glb] Remind me not to borrow any of your friend's lures. : But as far as the superstitions, no, I don't do anything nor do my partners. Fatdaddy150 Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Nothing I hate more than a guy that says fishing is just luck!!!! It is all skill!! Everyone has an off day that doesn't mean they had bad luck!! I don't beleive in having luck charms!! I count on my skill. If I counted on luck I wouldn't be very smart. So to answer your question no I don't have a lucky fishing item. Off the soap box now thanks Tight Lines, Fatdaddy151 Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 20, 2005 Super User Posted March 20, 2005 I agree with fatdaddy. You shouldn't ever depend on luck. I tell you what, try this. After you cast your bait out. As you are bringing it back to you. Say in your mind over and over. "Be the bait. Be the bait. Be the bait." And try to imagine everything you are making that bait do. If you bump something see if you can tell exactly what it is and what your lure looks like as you bring it over the cover. Quote
chefxian Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 You get lucky playing cards. You cannot control what the dealer pulls out of the shoe. You get lucky when your opponent mucks a hand. Fishing productively requires knowledge of fish and their enviroment. Nothing makes me more pleased than someone saying you got lucky catching that fish while they are getting skunked. Im sure the next record bass will come from Maine and some "LUCKY" guy will be using a hot dog bobber combo with a popcorn trailer. Now thats lucky Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 21, 2005 Super User Posted March 21, 2005 The harder you work, the luckier you get. Pay attention to the details, it's not just how much time you spend on the water, it's also what you are doing to improve your chances of catching more and better quality fish. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 I agree that hard fishing and knowledge of the sport will help with catching success. I don't consider anything I do (good or bad) to be luck but more as a blessing. If things don't go my way, God will bless me with the strength and stamina to deal with it. If things do go my way, He'll bless me with the right attitude and humility to deal with success. I consider just having the opportunity to participate in such an awesome sport a true blessing. I don't mean to sound like a Christian fanatic, but that's just how I feel. Quote
hookem19 Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 i have a lucky hat and sometimes i'm just feeling lucky but besides that it's raw skill...that's my opinion at least Quote
fatbass Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Its through homework, experimentation, hands on application and practice that a person develops skill and proficiency. The arena doesn't have to be fishing necessarily. I still usually wear the one hat, but never considered it lucky. Quote
