CJ Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I went in my local Wally World today. They are clearing all of the FLW brand lures. Most people don't even pay alot of attention to this lure line because it looks like a cheap Wal-Mart brand.Really one of my favorite all-time lures, the FLW 6" Finesse Worm,is made by Mann's.Anyway my eyes almost popped when I saw them on clearance for $1.50 a pack.I got some funny looks buying 20 bags of worms in January. On the other hand,it looks like Wal-Mart is going to be done selling them.I hope Mann's will still make this worm.I wonder, and I don't want to start rumor, but is Wal-Mart going to quit sponsoring FLW? cabela10 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I guess in the recent Bassin' magazine and in their insider's column they had an article regarding rumors of Wal-Mart getting out of or cutting back on their fishing dept. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I heard that one too, I need to go to Wally tomorrow for a few house things, CJ, what colors do you like, If they have the same sale, want me to grab you another $20 worth or so? Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted February 2, 2007 Super User Posted February 2, 2007 Now ur talkin thats prob what i spend 90% of my money on is clearance stuff i have 4 or 5 big rubber maid containers full of that stuff i wnet to kmart 2 months ago and got 6 mepps killer kits for 1 cent a peice then i went to the kmarts within 40 miles lookin for more didnt find none rattlesnake is another brand thats good .. Chris Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I hope they do cut back I know I don't shop there for my fishing needs. Not that it is a bad place or anything but I have seen many Mom and Pop tackle shops close because of wallyworld. When you take out the local tackle shops it also cuts out some of the variety that was available. Most people shop online these days anyways because of it. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted February 2, 2007 Super User Posted February 2, 2007 Yup thats the bad thing about big chains they have a big impact on mom and pop places wich in my opinion are great they have stuff u cant find online or even in big chains.I stopped at this one mom and pop about 8 yrs ago they had about 20 diff actions, sizes of garcia hellbender rods i shoulda bought them then but its about 50 miles from me and i was in a work truck hard to explain i was shopping LOL but i went past there about a YR later on my own time and they were closed down :'( Quote
CJ Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 Russ, thanks for the offer.I still have about 5 Wal-Marts in the area I'll go hit. Chris, you made a good point. Quote
Lard_Bass Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Quote I guess in the recent Bassin' magazine and in their insider's column they had an article regarding rumors of Wal-Mart getting out of or cutting back on their fishing dept. Here's an article I found that supports that Walmart is de-emphasizing hunting / fishing: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12316692 Also, I did a google and it looks like CJBasswacker is right that Mann's made the soft plastics and lures. I picked up a couple of bags of finesse worms and several jigs with trailers. Both Walmarts by my house are liquidating FLW stuff. Also, there are some Strike King 3x worms on clearance. Quote
squid Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 ONLY TALKS ABOUT FIREARMS...NOT FISHING STUFF... :-? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 2, 2007 Super User Posted February 2, 2007 I only tried the FLW finesse worms a little bit, but they seemed to have excellent action. My brother caught quite a few fish on them. They smelled a bit like watermelon candy to me... Quote

Posted February 2, 2007 Super User Posted February 2, 2007 Quote I guess in the recent Bassin' magazine and in their insider's column they had an article regarding rumors of Wal-Mart getting out of or cutting back on their fishing dept. I was in there the other day looking for a few boat things. I didn't see what I needed so I asked a worker if he knew if they carry them. I asked him "If you don't carry it now (shelves looked newly re-stocked), then you probably never will??" His answer was "Yes, and in a few weeks we are actually going to cut this whole department in half" Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Too bad I dont use RH retrieve Baitcaters they have a lot of ABU's marked down from 59 to 35 Bucks here!!!!!! Quote
Lard_Bass Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Quote ONLY TALKS ABOUT FIREARMS...NOT FISHING STUFF... :-? From the article: "Chief Executive Lee Scott has said that in communities like Plano, Wal-Mart's sports department should shift from a traditional emphasis on hunting and fishing to more home fitness and exercise products." ring fry Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 A friend of mine is the store manager here. He said that they will be cutting back a bunch on fishing and hunting stuff. I personally believe it has a lot to do with all the BPS, Cabellas, Dicks, Academy, etc. Which is fine if you live in a medium to larger size city, but us poor goobers that live in or near small towns are pretty much screwed. Yes, there is probably no reason to carry shotguns in Chicago or AC plugs in Des Moines, or ice fishing gear in Plano, but I find it hard to believe that a properly stocked department for the particular region wouldn't be profitable. Besides that, when the ole lady is shopping, I just don't get that excited about looking at oil filters and spark plugs! Quote

Super User burleytog Posted February 2, 2007 Super User Posted February 2, 2007 Checked my local store today. FLW finesse worms for $1.50 a bag, but bad color. A few 3X soft jerkbaits for $1.50 a bag. They did have Uncle Josh #11 trailers in blue for $2.50 a jar. I stocked up on those. Had a few display reels on sale as well. Just waiting for them to put that last TDA-153 on sale. Quote
TravisLovett Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Ha I love this site, it saved me money! They had Bomber cranks on sale for 2.97, so I got a few of the deep diving cranks in crawdaddy colors. Then they had the FLW 6"finesse worm in red shad swirl for 1.50 a pack, as well as having the FLW watermelon 4" tubes for 1.50. Then I saw Renegade Laser Minnows on sale for 1.97 so I got about 6 of them. So tomorrow im gonna go check out my other local wally world and raid its fishing department. Quote
Lard_Bass Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I saw the clearance stuff a week ago and passed until I found out the baits were made by Mann's (I should've checked the back of the bag before I passed them up the first time). I got a bag of junebug red finesse worm, green pumpkin finesse worm, green pumpkin lizard, and a bunch of 3/8 jigs (blue/ black and crawdad). All for less than $15! There were a bunch of pork trailers, tube baits, some Storm tubes baits, Mann's cranks, some 3x worms, and other jigs. I may go back up there so feed the bait monkey again. Quote
the ohh face Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 thanks fer the heads up, ill have to go check out the local walmarts Quote
crank it Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Yeh my local walmart in beloit wisconsin is clearing out all the flw plastics also I cleaned out all the green pumpkin 6in worms and lizards can't beat 1.50 a pack. Quote
Valascus Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 The Wal-Mart I went to in St. Peters, MO didn't have a single clearance item in the whole fishing dept. Maybe they already got cleaned out. :-? In fact, two store associates were in the process of restocking the fishing aisles. Hmmmmmmm...Maybe I'll go check a few more Wally Worlds in the area. Quote
