JT Bagwell Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Each year most athletes try to make adjustments to their game with hopes of improving performance. Bass Anglers are no different. What is ONE thing you plan to make an adjustment too this season to increase your level of performance? I think my biggest change will be in the amount of tackle in my boat. Last year I started to notice that I had way too much. It became a pain trying to sort through hundreds of bags of Senkos just to find one specific color. JT Bagwell Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 11, 2005 Super User Posted March 11, 2005 I'm going to commit a great deal of time to becoming a better jig fisherman. I believe JT, ew77 and others, jigs are a big fish lure and big fish thrill me. Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I'm just going to try to become more versatile on the water. I'm going to make myself fish deep open water structure. Something that I have a bad confidence issue with. Also I'd like to spend time on some unfamilar waters. I've never really fished many lakes with grassbeds so I don't know much about them but going to spend time learning. Quote
scbassin Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I am with J.T. I have to clean out the boat I've lost 5mph. I got rid of the kitchen sink yesterday. When that is done I am going to follow R.W. lead & fish tubes & jigs until I get it right. Quote
bassfisher5 Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I'm going to spend more time on the water don't get near enough time . Also going to try and become more versatile as far as deep structure fishing. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 11, 2005 Super User Posted March 11, 2005 JT, buddy, you can never have enough tackle. ;D Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Hey JT, I can help with all those overcrowded Yammie baits you have. ;D I need to get better at time management on the water. I spend too much time on some spots fishing dead water and not enough on others where I have caught fish. Confidence in a spot can kill you sometimes. When all you have is 8 hours, you gotta use them wisely. Brad Quote
Detroit3Pistons Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 This year I am goning to learn to how to fish a Jig and improve my Flipping and Pitching skills. Quote
D.Taylor Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I'm with JT. Less is more. I might have bought alot this year but I havent bought alot of stuff in colors (Just to Try) I bought productive colors and brands and designs ill fish alot. Quote
flippnfish Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 There is no substitute for time on the water. I have one tip that may help some of you wanting to learn or get better with a certain technique. for example; Jig fishing, take a box of jigs a flipp'n stick and leave everything else at the house. don't take any other rods with you. If they are not in the boat you will not be tempted in to giving up. Just a thought!! Quote
LunkerGuy Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 1. No longer put Berkley Vanish on my reels so I lose less fish! 2. Reduced my crap too. Not that I had too much but too much stupid stuff I'll never use. Only take "tried and trues" out. Fish new baits with my son from the bank on small bodies of water or complete "fun days" which are too few. 3. Make decisions faster. I think I made a lot of good decisions in tournaments but I waited too long to make them and certainly weighed in lighter as a result. 4. Get my new trolling motor on my boat. I was fishing with a 12 volt on the Hudson River for Pete's sake! I just bought a 24V 80 pound w/ U. Sonar, and a 3 bank charger. That ought to eliminate some of my issues. 5. Get off the tubes! Meaning, work for a while to determine what the fish are doing as oppossed to always "running spots". I have to cover more water and slow down after I figure it out. Spent too much time tinking around when i should have been moving. 6. Work from a "day box". I plan to pre-fish all my club tourneys this year as oppossed to fishing more tournaments. I want an AOY title. Once I figure things out on Friday I will be narowed down to 4-5 baits and a few rods. Simplify! Quote
slapnuts Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 This year I am going to learn how to fish a jig and and some different hard bait. Quote
squid Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Already did the tackle cutdown, now I need to work on Jig fishing and Spinner bait fishing....just don't feel comfortable using them...so I will be using them on our Monday night tournaments. Quote
DumbLuck Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 SLOW DOWN!!!! I am a decent fisherman, but I truly believe I could get bit a lot more this year by fishing slower and not moving my bait as far when I work it. Quote
Will Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I am going to try and get in physical shape before the tournaments start so I will have more energy at the end of the day. Quote
Cephkiller Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Improve jig presentation (i.e pitching skills). Quote
TommyBass Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I gotta learn to fish deep more effectively and efficiently, I get a few fish now and then fishing deep, but the lure of the shallows always draws me back after a half hour or so of no bites, mostly a confidence thing i suppose. I also need to pattern fish better. I do alot of gut fishin in tournaments and i do real well with it, but i need to slow down and think about what I am doing sometimes Quote
chefxian Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Definitely Slowing Down . I have 3 ponds 1 decent sized where I live and I fish 4 hours a day solid but I get to fast trying new baits and being impatient. I noticed when I take one or two baits and fish them slow I am much more productive. Oh yea the advice on this web page has helped me improve a bunch. Quote
basspro05 Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 this year instead of working so much so I can buy a boat, which I did, I am going to spend almost everyday on the water since I have a boat now, it is nice to mooch off of your parents for a while, so I can better my skills of course ;D Quote
Super User 5bass Posted March 12, 2005 Super User Posted March 12, 2005 I will be fishing a jig a whole lot more.I re-discovered it's effectiveness about half way thru last season and realized that when I started bass fishing,I caught a whole lot of bass on jigs.I guess through the years,I got away from it because all the different baits and techniques coming out,I seldom had to go to the jig.But now it's back and I'm sure to get alot more bites with it.Cant wait--come on Spring! Quote
Mike H. Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Hey JT, I can help with all those overcrowded Yammie baits you have. ;D LOL! Yeah JT, share the stuff! As most people, I plan to fish jigs more. And do some more flipping and pitching. Quote
catbird48 Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 i think i am going to fish more and fish more often, also im going to learn to break down alarge lake into smaller lakes , pick one that you think holds more fish and disect that part of the lake. ithink my fish/catch ratio will improve ten fold. got to run catbird48 Quote
tritonman Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Has to be the jig, need to work with it more. I'm good at everything else ;D Quote
Aaron_S Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 I am like the rest of the crowd, I am going to work on jig fishing so I can catch some big fish. Quote
