Detroit3Pistons Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 When I see people Flipping and Pitching I notice that they are usually close when doing it. I also notice that once their bait hits the bottom they shake it or jig it up and down a little bit. Can you pitch from a further distance and work the bait all the way through the cover back to you instead of just shaking it or jigging it up and down? Have you ever tried this with success? Another thing, what your favorite bait for Flipping and Pitching? Thanks Quote
ernel Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 All the pitch would be, is the method that was used to deliver the lure to your target. After the lure hits the water you can use any retrieve method that you choose. Seeing as I also pitch crankbaits and spinnerbaits, they don't work as well while just shaking them in place. The pitch just gives you the quiet entry. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 i love the technique and you can do it up to 40 feet if you get a long enough rod and put enough umph into it. Quote
earthworm77 Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Pitching is essentially the long distance version of flipping alothuogh I prefer to use it for short presentations as well. Quote
BCAlbin Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 To me, Flippin'/Pitchin' is all about the presentation. When you've got muddy/stained water and the bass are holding tight to cover and you want to quietly and accurately put a lure right in front of their face for a reaction strike, F/P is the way to go. You can work the bait all the way back to the boat if you want, but the strike zone is usually much tighter to the cover in a F/P situation, so you might just be wasting time. By putting the lure right in front of his face then shaking it (especially w/ rattles), you might be able to coax a strike rather than immediately starting your retrieve and consequently moving your lure away from him. The reason you have to be so close with Flippin' is because you're working with a fixed length of line. Pitchin' on the other hand is only limited by how far you can effectively pitch and still get the quiet presentation. A typical maximum pitchin' distance would probably be 25 to 30 feet. My favorites: 3/8 BLK/BLU Jig or T/R 4" GRN Pumpkin Tube. Just my $.02... Quote
D.Taylor Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 well said BC I will add 1 thing to all my fellow non boaters out there be prepared to pitch 30 feet. Especially in river conditions in a big draw tournament. It brings out the lake guys. Some of these guys with 40,000 dollar boats dont get close enough to properly fish structure for fear of getting a scratch. Which I don't blame them. Im a river fishermen I might just Key the next boat I buy and not worry about scratching it after that. Quote
