Wasp, hornets, and snakes.  One time my dad and I were fishing from a 2 man bass boat at a farm pond and a snake fell into the boat from a tree that my dad was trying to get his spinnerbait out of.  We both jumped overboard.  I HATE SNAKES WITH A PASSION!!!!!

I have never had an owl come after me but I have had one go after a bait. I walked out the back door one evening after changing the line on one of my reels. I had a spinner bait on and made a quick cast in the yard to see if a noise I was hearing in the reel was gone. I started reeling in and I saw the owl come flying down after the spinner bait. I pulled it so he couldnt get it but it really caught me off guard.

I think that is what it was after was my jitterbug lure.

A couple of years ago I took the family down to Table Rock for a vacation.  We got there late and after I put the boat in we had to go to town to get groceries.  It was bed time by the time we got back, but I was so pumped I couldn't sleep so I decided to walk down to the lighted dock.  When I got there, there was a heron standing on the end of the dock under the light.  As I approached, he got upset and flew off.  Then I noticed that the fish were swirling under the light at the end of the dock.  Thousands of them just swimming in a counter clock-wise circle.  They would get to swimming so fast that they would make a votex in the center and when they got to a frenzy, all of a sudden a bigger fish would swim out from under the dock and make a pass through the herd before ducking back in.

I decided to try to snag one of these big boys to see what it was (bass, pike, ?).  As I was fishing, I heard the sound of someone walking on the dock, but I couldn't see anyone.  Just as I was about convinced the thing was haunted, I saw something overhead out of the corner of my eye.  I was ole Mr. Heron.  He had come back and was watching me from off of the roof.  After about an hour, I decided to go back up to the cabin and as I walked away he swooped back down to his original spot, but kept turning to watch as I walked away.

Funny this should come up today.  The other morning I was on my dock talking to a friend who was crappie fishing in the canal and he caught a small crappie and just as he was going to throw it back a hoot owl flew down and landed in the boat and I thought he was going to walk across the water to my dock.  Anyway he threw the crappie up on the bank and the owl flew up there and got him.  Later that afternoon he was fishing the same place with a friend, having told that story, he catches a small bluegill and said watch this as he threw it on the bank..yep...an owl flew down and got it...could not believe it...I told him he would have him sitting on his shoulder by the morning LOL

I've never even seen an owl in the wild!

Last summer I was in my boat and it sounded like someone threw a boulder in the water behind me.  Two beavers started circling my boat slamming their tails down as they went by.  I couldn't believe the noise they could make with their tails.  Guess they didn't want me there!

Yeah the beavers are pretty adoment about getting you out of their territory.

Regarding the bats, I remember them swooping us when we ran lines in the middle of the night as a kid.  Now, we like to go out late evening and swim in our pool or sit and watch.  I guess the bats are trying to get water (or mosquitos).  We had my wife's cousin's 11 year old boy over last summer.  We knew the bats were coming and didn't tell him.  When they started swooping him he freaked out and was screaming like a girl. Even my 6 year old little girl thought it was funny. ;D

This reminds me of another quick story.  Several years ago, a buddy and I were fishing on a nearby lake that has some good bass, but gets a lot of pressure so we have never done very good there.  We had trolled down a long cove without any action at all and were comming up the other side when we heard an awful commotion comming from the next point up.  We looked and saw a long-legged shore bird flapping it's wings and running across the top of the water and a bass was chasing it.  We put the trolling motor on high and fished that spot with top waters for a long time with no response but laughed about this the whole time.

Last May in Ontario, I was fishing for walleye.  In the cove where I was fishing I could see an eagle on her nest up on shore in a tall tree.  I watched it with binoculars for awhile and thought it was also watching me.  So I decided to try something.  I had a gut hooked small walleye that was about dead in my live well so I threw it into the water about 15 feet from the boat.  The eagle flew from the nest and dove right down to the water and snatched the fish.  Talk about a HUGE and MAJESTIC bird!  What a thrill!
