Sportsnut Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 OLN debuts The Best and Worst of Tred Barta this Friday at 9 pm et/pt . It's different from any other field sports show on TV . Barta doesn't believe in hunting or fishing the easy way -- he stalks elk with handmade wooden arrows and wrestles tuna. It'll be up-close, as it really happens hunting and fishing -- the good, the bad and the Barta . Tred's got the credentials, and you probably know about his long-running Sport Fishing column , but he's got his own way of doing things. We want to know what you think. Like it or hate it . Let us know at feedback@olntv.com. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 15, 2004 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 15, 2004 FYI to our regular visitors - OLN asked permission from me first before posting this message. I thought some of you might be interested, so I allowed it, even thought it is technically a "commercial" posting. Let me know if you disagree with this decision. Thanks! Glenn Quote
njvbass Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 I'll have to check it out.Sounds pretty interesting. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Glenn, I think as long as they were decent enough to ask (and you approved it) then there shouldn't be any problem from anyone. JT Bagwell Quote
Chris Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I watched it the other night and i wasn't impressed. It sounded to me like another espn garbage show. Hunting with Hank is another one i am not impressed with it sounds like Mr. Rodgers going hunting. Whatever happened to Larry Nixon? There is a ton of other fishing and hunting shows that old and new that should be shown well before that idiot. Orlando Wilson is another great show that is not around anymore. Years ago you could plan on Sat or Sunday watching great shows that taught you how to fish or hunt with great tips even for the seasoned outdoorsman now i can think of only a few. Flw, BASS, Denny Brauer, Larry Nixon, Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Stikeking, to name a few. Its sad that i pay for OLN just for a hand full of shows because most of the shows are just for show and not teaching much of anything so i don't find much value to them and you will find many with the same opinion. bassaholic Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Watched this show the other night on OLN, Barta and his son and some muscle head were fishing for tuna. He claimed to be the best tuna man in the world and doing it on a beer budget, then he says he has a 150K boat 10k in gear and 20k in electronics. That does not sound like a beer budget plus he is a complete idiot on camera. He we kind of amusing to watch them. Quote
Chris Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 ESPN January all bass fishing shows how bout that i guess ESPN is going to take the lead THANK GOD. Sunday morning what does oln have to offer? Bill Dance, Roland, and angling edge. Thats it? that is all thats on about bass fishing the #1 american sport fish. Oh yeah your guy your asking about it was nice of him to hit a deer that he knew was not a humaine shot and lost the dang thing and then said well thats hunting. The bad part is that you showed it on tv. Then he shoots a doe thats bedding oh yeah thats skill. Quote
L.D. Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Glenn if it's good for you it's certainly fine with me. I watched the show, it's great ammo for the anti hunters and fishermen. If I treated my clients like he treats his guests and the people around him, I'd be out of business soon. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 28, 2004 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 28, 2004 Personally, I haven't viewed the show, so I can't comment on it's content. It just sounded to me like an outdoors show would have some interest here. Quote
kajun Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Glenn I've never seen the show either so I also cannot comment about whether or not it is any good but allowing him to post a question on your site asking that question I think was a very good idea. It gives us as sportsman a voice as to what television tries to show us. FYI to the guys from OLN Larry Nixon's show is great so I'm pretty disappointed :'( that I haven't seen his show in awhile. Mainer Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 I watched the show this morning. The host is a little hard to take. He has a huge ego, and is very self centered and in-your-face. He motored nearly 100 miles offshore to the canyon (Continental shelf) for yellowfin tuna fishing. He had several rigs out and wanted 3 or 4 hookups at one time. (Very dumb for a solo fisherman.) He got one hookup and struggled to clear the empty lines. He landed the fish and gave a very dramatic (and bloody) finish to the fight. The show brought back memories of my trip to the canyon, but I can not say that I enjoyed the show for anything more than the memories. Quote
Maineiac Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 OLN needs to lose this puppy before ole Tred becomes the next poster boy for PETA. This show is like a fusion of WWF, Samuri Sportsman and Lesiure Suit Larry with a little Ted Nugent thrown in for spice. But not all is lost I have an idea for one last episode. Lets have ole Tred go Brown Bear hunting with a club while using himself as bait. If it gets a little too messy for OLN I'm sure Realtv will snap it up. Before watching this travesty I thought Charlie Moore was hard to take......ok he's still hard to take but not compared to this dolt. Quote
abelfisher Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 GLENN, I have not seen the show. However, having OLN ask to post to your site is indeed a compliment. Also, it's great for OLN to actualy ask all of us our opinion about their programming. Hope they continue to ask; even if it isn't the answer they are looking for. However, just by them asking us tells me they are truly interested in our input.HEY OLN, how about more bass fishing shows with the real pros and less snowboarding. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 It shows that OLN respects you glenn. Quote
scbassin Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Glenn I agree with J.T. I have not seen the show & probley will not. Quote
Stickling Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 This dude is crazy, on one of his shows i saw him beat a fish to death with a hammer. I didnt understand it. And when he was trying to get it in the boat he was talking ot himself in the thirst person. LOL Quote
Mattlures Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 I like that show. It is diferent and intertaining. So what if the guy is an ego maniac. I still like the show. I watched him bow down a mule deer doe. That is an impresive feet. Arent you guys sick of seeing the same typ of shows? variety is good. I agree I would like to see more bass fishing but if I would much rather see less quail hunting shows. They are boring. Quote
