Redtail Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 If you are in a part of the lake that looks perfect for bass, but you aren't catching anything on your spinnerbait. Do you switch to a plastic, then to a crankbait or something else, or do you just move to another spot. Just curious what you guys do. Thanks Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 1, 2005 Super User Posted February 1, 2005 What makes it look "perfect" ? the fact that it looks perfect for you doesn 't mean they find it perfect, the weather conditions, water conditions, type of bottom, etc. dictate if the fish will be there at that particular time and determine which bait is better suited for that spot. Spinnerbaits are almost all around baits because they are probably the most versatile lure ever invented so most probably you 're not choosing the right spinnerbait for the job or you 're not working it at the proper depth or at the proper speed. DumbLuck Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 I agree with Raul in that you have to analyze what the conditions are for the spot you are in. I myself like to move , especially when the fish are moving and actively feeding. It's a numbers game. I feel like the more fish see my bait , the more I am going to catch. Quote
Shad_Master Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 If I have analyzed the conditions and feel like the spot ought to have fish on it, or if I have caught fish on this spot under similar conditions, I would change baits. Maybe they have seen spinner baits a lot recently and aren't going to react to them, but they do have to feed. So give them another menu choice. If they still don't bite, it's time to move on. Quote
squid Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 I agree with Shad-Master. Try another bait, but don't waste to much time in one location if in a tournament. I would also just slow troll right through it with the new bait, this way you aren't just sitting in one spot to much longer. Quote
tritonman Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 remember wind, and weather have alot to do with it as well as color of lure and size of lure. Quote
Chris Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 I can not stress this enough. Figure out what they want. Spend the day moving around and trying different stuff and different lures untill you unlock something. Myself I am a well accomplished crankbait fishermen I could spin rings around alot of people but guess what last year I never caught a keeper all year in a tournament on a crankbait. The high dirty water killed my crankbait bite. Even out of my element I still placed 11th in points with a few high finishes to include 2 second place finishes. Why? I changed and used different stuff. You need to adjust change things around. One bait is not going to work all the time every time you go.( I sometimes wish it could) If you spend the day chucking a spinnerbait with nothing to show for it then the fish just told you that they want something else or that they moved. 90% of the fish live in 10% of the water. There are a bunch of places that I fish that all look like they should hold fish but few do. Some fish may use the area at a different time of the day or season. Quote
