Guest notserp89m Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Which state do you think has the best Bass Fishing in the country. Taking in consideration BOTH Largemouth and Smallmouth. Quote
earthworm77 Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 If I can pick 5.....California+spots, Mo.+Spots, Tenn and Kentucky+Spots............Florida get #5 despite not having Smallies, it does have spots, suwannees, shoal bass and gotta love them sunshine bass. I think states like NY, Georgia and Virginia have good fisheries as well. There are a ton. But #1....likely California. Quote
njvbass Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 I've been to fla, texas, but I still love fishing Pennsylvania waters. Quote
Pond-Pro Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 I'd like to say Ohio but I guess I can't. Although we have great smallmouth fishing in lake erie, and spotted bass in the Ohio river, the largemouth just don't grow as big here. Quote
Big_Bass_Rich Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 New York is my pick. It's pretty diverse as far as species go plus there's 2 of the great lakes to fish, PLUS the St Lawrence PLUS Finger Lakes PLUS The Niagara River! Quote
Nick Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Although they have shortened seasons, Minnesota and New York would get my vote for best all around. Numerous uncrowded waters, both large and small. Little tournament fishing pressure, lots of other species to fish for including walleye and trout allow for less bass pressure, combined with a closed season to protect bass. Both have good populations of both large and smallmouth, and the hotter it gets, the better the fishing generally. Good amounts of aquatic weedgrowth help sustain the abundance of prey and predators. I've fished all regions of the country, and I get many more bites up North. In the South, I'd go with Alabama as a great place to catch spots, smallies and Largemouth. Lots of good water here and accessible all year long. By the way, I've lived in Missouri my whole life. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-98375 Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 I have to add my home state of Alabama, between the long growing season, the smallies up on the tennesee river get huge. guntersville is on top of the list of places to catch monster Largemouths(numbers also:) and we have some of the largest Spotted bass in the world. IMHO : ) tight lines Danny Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 8, 2004 Super User Posted December 8, 2004 Maybe Nick's right about New York & Minnesota, but Alabama's a good pick, too. Just got the December issue of Bassmaster, I don't think I've read an article any better on Southern fishing: (DESTINATIONS) Pickwick Lake: Alabama's Smallmouth Hot Spot . Quote
bquittem Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 i dont know if it counts because i live in Minnesota and I've done the majority of my fishing in Minnesota, but i think the bass fishing is unreal. there are so many lakes and everyone has bass. Of course they dont get as big as the southern bass but ive heard from some southern bass fisherman that the numbers are better overall in Minnesota. Ive also caught many 5+ lb largemouths, and a few 4+ lb smallies. We dont have spots but largemouths and smallmouths are in a great abundance and most fisheries keep on getting better year after year. Quote
crankbait Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 I like fishing in my home state NJ...! Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 No question about it....New York with the large variety of water with big small mouth and largemouth. I have had the chance to fish the entire east cost and a good part of the south over the past 30 years. Nothing compares to the New York fishery for overall average size and quality. Too bad the season is so short. Quote
