BassFishingMachine Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 My favorite are rapala huskyjerks, but luckycraft slender pointers have worked well for me also. Quote
fathom Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 think "pop-r" in 6' of water...and work it the same way. pointer sp's and dd's are slaying 'em here now. Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 28, 2008 Super User Posted December 28, 2008 Bomber Long A. Particularly the Tim Horton models if you fish clear water. Rapala Husky Jerks Rapala X-Raps. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted December 28, 2008 Super User Posted December 28, 2008 4 Lucky Crafy Pointers. I didn't believe in the $15 lure either until last spring 2 Pointer 100 -- chartreuse shad and ghost minnow 2 Pointer 78 -- same colors Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 4 Lucky Crafy Pointers. I didn't believe in the $15 lure either until last spring 2 Pointer 100 -- chartreuse shad and ghost minnow 2 Pointer 78 -- same colors Thats was exactly the advice I was going to give. Except I would suggest 2 pointer 100's in chartreuse shad and ghost minnow and then 2 pointer 128's in the same colors. The 128's look big but don't be intimidated by them. Quote
zbigbadaaron Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Bomber Long A. Particularly the Tim Horton models if you fish clear water. Rapala Husky Jerks Rapala X-Raps. i agree dont forget rapala original floater ;D Quote

frogtog Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Jerk jerk pause jerk jerk pause jerk jerk jerk pause pause pause pause, set the hook. LC pointer. Quote
zbass Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Try different retrieve speed and cadences until the fish tell you what they want. Then repeat what got you the bite. The nature of the jerkbait will get bites. All of the baits mentioned are good baits. Try a couple of different ones and see what works for you. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 29, 2008 Super User Posted December 29, 2008 Try walking the dog like you would with a Zara Spook & see what happens! Quote
Matt 825 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Pointer 100-- Ghost Minnow, American Shad Spro McStick-- Blue Bandit, Spooky Shad (New Baits) They have been working great so far In cold water I use a Jerk, Jerk.......Pause (vary pause up to 30 seconds sometimes) then Jerk....pause.......jerk, jerk, jerk.....pause Quote
TruiteBR Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Are jerkbaits more used for smallmouth? When are they effective for bigmouth bass?? Sorry about the probably stupid question, but I never understood jerkbaits. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 29, 2008 Super User Posted December 29, 2008 Jerkbaits are great for largemouth up here in spring when there are little to no weeds, and the fish are relating to structure like a boulder field, deep channel, or distinct dropoff. In cold temps, long, long pauses will get bit. I'm talking loooong pauses, like 30 seconds. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 LC POINTER 100 LC POINTER 128 RAPALA X-RAP STRIKE KING Suspending models i will let sit on the pause up to 15-20 seconds before twitching in 30' water temp. After you get that first strike, just remember what you were doing and whether it was on the pause or the retrieve you got bit. Sounds simple i know, but sometimes i have a hard time remebering in all the excitement. I like fire tiger, clown color or any shad color are my favorites. Quote
Matt 825 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I agree with J Franko. Jerkbaits work great for largemouth up here in winter, spring and late fall. I think I caught more largemouth over 5 IBs this year on jerkbaits than any other bait I threw. They see that pointer 100 and they have to eat it. Quote
Bass Dude Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Excalibur---great finishes and cast like a bullet. You can't go wrong with X-Raps either. Remember don't jerk your lure on a tight line, leave a little slack and "pop" that slack tight. It makes the lure dance almost in place and keeps it in the strike zone longer. Quote
