Captain Phil Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 For many years one of the best full time bass guides in Central Florida was Captain Lynda Hawkins. She has been fishing and winning tournaments for many years. I had the pleasure of fishing tournaments with her and she taught me a lot. When I fished tournaments with her, we never had an issue that we couldn't work out. She was a pure professional in every way. If either one of us had to take care of nature, we looked the other way. She was also in my bass club and very tough to beat. At one time, we had a Senior Bass Tournament Trail in Florida. It was a team tournament where one angler had to be over 50. We had numerous women team entries. These were the toughest tournaments I ever fished. Going up against a room full of men and women anglers with that much skill and experience was humbling. My wife has fished many a "He and She" tournament with me. She out fished me on numerous occations. There is nothing in bass fishing a woman can't do just as well or better than a man. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted August 9, 2021 Super User Posted August 9, 2021 I honestly don't personally know a single female that specifically bass fishes, other than my wife. And she only does it since she's married to me. I'm not saying that I'm against it, I just don't know of any. And I have a lot of friends and relatives that fish here. My Mother is a very avid angler but she almost exclusively targets walleyes, with a small amount of panfishing in the spring. She used to muskie fish many years ago but physically I don't think she is able to cast anymore. She and my Father fish a lot together, both recreationally and competitively in walleye tournaments. BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted August 9, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted August 9, 2021 You should connect with the Ladies Bass Angler Association (https://www.ladybassanglers.com/). It's an all-woman professional bass circuit that often visits your lake. A lot of great ladies fish that circuit. It's awesome you want to sponsor them! 2 Quote

Would love to hear of any updates y'all have in regards to women fishing in tournaments. I own a business in Waterloo, AL on Pickwick Lake and I'm interested in starting/sponsoring a women's bass tournament to bring in tourism and...well, to be different. There are literally tournaments every week of the year here. (I've seen them fishing in the rain and snow in January and February!) But I've never seen/heard of a women's tournament. I have a first cousin who has been a professional fisherman and guide here for 45 years and when I asked his advice I got "You'll have to make it a couples tournament, because I don't know ANY men that would let their wives take the boat out." PUH-LEASE!! I know there have to be women out there who don't fall onto that stereotype that would be interested. Right? Keep us posted if this tournament ever happens, my fiancé would probably enjoy fishing it Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted August 10, 2021 Super User Posted August 10, 2021 I just can’t believe that women in fishing is still an issue. Can women fish as well or better than men? Of course! Was the way BASS treated the women wrong? ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY! I wait for the day a lady bass angler wins an open or gets into the Elites, or wins the classic. I used to laugh when I guided a husband/wife because I knew that 75% of the time the wife was going to outfish the husband. Why? Because they actually listened to what I was telling them.?. I know a couple of ladies who fish tournaments on more than just the local circuit. Wish them all the luck in the world. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 10, 2021 Global Moderator Posted August 10, 2021 There’s just something different about women anglers. Don’t know what it is…. Maybe they have more overall Patience Maybe they have an ability to concentrate just a little more. Maybe they don’t let failure effect them as much May thier decision making ability is more tuned in…. I don’t know what is, but every women I have come across in a tournament setting would give most guys in the field pause. They know if she’s committed enough to compete in a Regional or National trail, she has the skills to compete and they are always respected because they most assuredly earned it. Mike Quote

Mike I've known two women tournament anglers and they were both a force to be reckoned with. I think most men get distracted by things that don't put fish in the boat. A man will spend a lot of time, energy, and money to increase the speed of a boat that already goes 70 MPH. Quote
