Got up at 3am this morning. Loaded the gear. Heck, I was even out in the backyard digging earthworms (bait for my bait)in my sweats, at 3:30am.

Walked out to the truck at about 5am..... and I start hearing this low pitched growl :( Look up at the top of the palm trees across from my house, and they are starting to sway :(

@#%^^  %%^&   &%^% ! Oh sure, I could go out anyway, and fight the freaking hurricane all day, whining and cussing, and having a generally crappy time...... Or, I can just throw this one day of my life in the trash can :( ......because it doesn't matter how nice it is tomorrow, today will be gone forever !

Freaking nuclear fallout wouldn't be so bothersome !

Too bad, Chris. I know about wind living here on the Missouri side of the edge of Kansas. My main lake is in a rolling hill area and the wind hits it hard on most days. When it's too bad I will choose a smaller lake with more protection.

I would rather fish in the rain than fight the wind when it's really blowing. I usually would try to find a sheltered spot on the lake, but there have been times when the wind has cut my day short. >:(

Wind is the only thing that will keep me off the lake ;)

Come on Chris, life is too short to toss any day away.

There's no reason to waste the entire day.  Go to Hulu and watch all the repeats of Gilligan's Island they've got.  Great theme song to remember for next time you are on the water while the wind is kicking up.

Make a list of why you would be better off with Mary Ann instead of Ginger, or vice-versa.  Perhaps you could even come up with a list of members here who are old enough for Mrs. Howell to be considered a cougar!   ;D

If you really have your heart set on being outdoors, perhaps today would be a good day to finally start using a baitcasting rig.  Tie on a #11 Rapala, go out in the backyard, and try casting into the wind!  At the very least you should be able to come up with a few new #@$%^ words!

I hate the wind as well.Especially in my Jon Boat. That darn thjing acts like a weather vane when its blowing out.I can get into a good spot and even anchor, and then what do you know...There I go drifting away.

And then the wind will shift, and there I go the other way.

It can be totally calm here at home, but then I get to the lake its blowing like crazy. I normally go out anyway because I just spent an hour of drive time and gas,so I might as well try to make the best of the situation, unless I feel the wind is just too strong that it could be dangerous.

Its just one of those things we have no control over, which kinda sucks.

I normally have my metal detectors with me,so if a day on the lake doesnt pan out,I can still try to salvage the day by going "Dirt Fishing"

My father in law hates the wind too. Calls it "b*stard wind"

I play a little joke on him every once in awhile. Ill drink a bottle of soda, and put the lid back on it.

I give it to him and tell him  "I was at the store and they had bottles of wind on sale,so I picked ya up one, since I know you love it so much..."

He chuckles, and then starts in about how he hates the wind. Easy to get a rise out of him when that subject is brought up.

There are many days this time of year that I don't venture out on the water, 20mph wind with a 5' roll is too rough for this old guy.  I go into withdrawal if I don't catch fish every day, I'd be fishing from shore someplace.  Large fish to be had but can be challenging in both locating them and landing them.

Well exactly ! That's why I feel like the wind really steals a day of it from me !

But yea.... I'm starting to come up with a few things that I can mess around with on the truck.

And the really nice thing, is that tomorrow is supposed to be just beautful, and NOT windy.... and I already have most of the gear loaded (I have an alarmed fiberglass bed cover).

So anyway.....

Peace,

Don't even get me started Chris. I've been whining about the wind for years and frankly, my fishing buddies are sick of it I think. I can't help it though. I mean I get it. Wind can position fish blah blah blah, but to me, the wind just ruins everything. I hate it on so many levels and for pretty much every sport, especially fishing.

It's already kept me off the water this year and it's driving me mad. I haven't been out yet, and every time the weatherman says it should be a nice day to fish, it's cloudy and windy instead. The clouds are fine but the wind keeps me in.

Here's a funny, artsy, super clever video on the subject to cheer you up though. Good stuff and I hope a lot of people watch it. Next time you fish and it's blowing outside, think of this video and maybe you'll have sympathy for the wind. lol.

I dont wana hear it :) Crying around about the wind blowing to hard  :'( :'( at least it warm enough for you to fish now get out there and find a place on the lake that has a nice point with the wind ripping across it and put your anchor out and fish  8-)

Same happened to me this week.... Went to the lake and hit several nice ones when the wind took a turn for the worse! When I'm running from the wind, I'm not usually running to the fish  :-/

Then the next morning the temps dropped 40 degrees and the wind kept on coming... I'm at home right now and glad I am  ;)

It'll get better and the fish will still be there waitin' on ya Chris, just wait it out
