Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 So after getting done with a huge project for work, I hit the water for the first time in a few weeks. Couldn't ask for more fun. Bunch of fish caught in a couple of hours. Great way to have fun with a few new rods and reels. Then this beast came up and decided to play. Nice way to gain some confidence testing out some new line and rods. What great fun. Big male all lit up in his spawning colors. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 2, 2011 New Dobyns 734, Citica, 17lb XPS Fluoro. Absolutely whalloped a small creature bait pitched next to a hydrilla bed. He was probably guarding a spawning area. Absolutely crashed the lure as it dropped. I'm not a huge fan of fluoro, but I'm giving it a whirl for a while. Catching fish like that sure is a great way to start out.... Quote
B-Dozer Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Lucky you! I still have 2 feet of ice on the water here. Bet your going out tomorrow. Quote

Is that your boat in your backyard? That's pretty sweet. What body of water is it? Quote

It's just a strip pit thats dug out to build up housing foundations. Cost me extra to have the house built on lakefront property, but man is it ever worth it. That picture is standing in my back yard. Quote

How big is it? Btw, do you like the 734? Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 2, 2011 It's not that big. Just big enough to enjoy with a TM. It's electric only. Takes about an hour and a half, two hours if you were to just cruise the banks all the way around. The 734 is pretty nice. It's being used right now for moderate cover pitching, senkos, spinnerbaits, and squarebills in heavier stuff. It's definitely got a bit more backbone than the 733. Both of them are great rods and have had very equal use. I really like the 704 though. That rod just feels fantastic in my hands. Quote
Fat-G Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Good stuff, I'm going to save up for a little bit and get a Champion Extreme DX744. I've heard nothing but good things about it. It's a very versitile rod as well. Beautiful peacock, I've never had the pleasure of catching one. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 2, 2011 Super User Posted March 2, 2011 Beautiful fish! Next time I'm in Florida, catching one of those is at the top of my priority list! Quote
Big-O Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Yeah Buddy, that'll get you going right there!!! WTG Eric Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
hookingem Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Now that's a pretty fish! I've never had the chance to catch one. How do they fight? Similar to a largemouth? Quote

Much better fight than a largemouth. From the guys I've talked to that catch smallmouth, they're very similar to each other. The Peacocks are a little tougher, strong runs, and very acrobatic. Quote
bassman31783 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Man those are just an awesome fish. Great color on that one. Nice catch. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 Those are great fish for sure...funky...but beautiful! Quote

Super User South FLA Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 NICE ;D! The Dobyns bait monkey attacked me on the way to you in , got a 735 Champion as a pitching rod. Quote
FL_Sharpshooter Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Beautiful coloration, great fish! Wish peacocks lived further up here, although I have heard rumors... Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 Beautiful coloration on this beast, Eric. WTG Quote
piscicidal Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Eric, nice fish man! I'm jealous. I used to have huge peacocks spawning right behind my house about this time of year. I haven't seen one this year. I think the cold weather got em... :'( Quote

The 735 is on my list right now. I believe Mike picked one up also. The only reason I didn't buy one when that sale at BTD was happening is because I have a rod that is very similar in stats. After playing around with the rest of my new rods, the old one definitely is not the same quality. There needs to be another sale soon so I can buy one. I'm still surprised at how well those rods feel. Quote
