Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Hit Loxahatchee again with South Fla for some frogging action. Last time out Robert put me only on dinks & those nasty mudfish. This time out Robert out did himself by catching pickerel, mudfish & a nice blue tilapia & a dozen or so bass mixed in. The 2nd highlight of the day occurred after casting a 10.5" Ol Monster worm. I had a professional overrun, picked it out & started reeling in when I felt the line tightening. I set the hook & felt an unmovable weight. Then it started swimming towards the boat & I looked into the water & saw this prehistoric form swimming under the boat with my worm in its mouth. About a 4 foot gator started peeling line off my baitcaster. Then it started coming back towards the boat before making a long & last run before the hook pulled. Really caught me by surprise. I have heard of people snagging gators before but didn't realize they would pick up a plastic worm. The first highlight of the day was a nice bass on a rage toad fishing the flats. Special thanks to Robert for a great day & a promise to put him on a big lake erie smallie if he comes up this spring. Quote

piscicidal Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Great job, Dwight. I'm glad you and Robert are having some fun out at Lox. I love that place. I wish I could have joined you guys out there yesterday... Quote
Super User South FLA Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 It was an exact reversal of roles this last time out! I was hammering every species known to reside in our local waterways other than bass. Dwight's alligator at the end of the day was hard to beat even for a Florida native! Bass are scattered on flats around islands and thicker eel grass areas and pads it seems, lipless crankbait pattern that we had last time fell apart unless you are targeting pickerel or mudfish! Once again glad we got out there Dwight, next time we are going to have to do some urban bank casting and catch some really big'uns! Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Great trip guys. Robert knows where those beasties live in Lox. Quote
