bassman018 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Well i got out today with my new 6.6 fast action and an Okuma reel with 4 lb trilene. I threw Some Mepps aglia spinners, a Kastmaster, and a mini crank And was killing the bass! I think the large ones arnt active yet but with the light gear it was soo fun. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 That is awesome to be catching them this time of year with a UL set up. I have a 7' Okuma UL rod mated to a small Abu G Cardinal. You're dead on with how much of a blast UL fishing is. 8-) Quote
CSimon2 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I love UL fishing. There is nothing like it. Actually, topwater fishing is better, but I love UL fishing. It really tests your skills as a fisherman and it is so fun. Every fish feels like a monster. Quote
7mm-08 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I fished almost exclusively with UL stuff for years until I got into frog fishing 5 or 6 years ago. If the fish aren't banging on frogs my goto setup is still an UL rig with inline spinners. It doesn't get much better than a 6 or 7 lb. catfish on an ultralight rod. Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Ultralight is great. 4lb powerpro has improved my overall experience. You get the feel and sensitivity of braid and you still have a small enough test poundage to keep it sportsman like for the fish. Carlos Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 Yeah, the large ones arent active. That is why you couldnt get them on a mepps. Quote
Fat-G Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I caught a 5 last year on a 5'6 Light and 4# Trilene. Midday on a beetle spin. Great fight, took about two minutes to land. I want to do it more this year. I'll probably get some small circle hooks and throw Zoom Finesse Worms when I just feel like slayin' fish all day. Definitely tests your angling skills. Quote
Super User webertime Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 My PB smallie was on a 5' UL. Try a 1/16th oz jighead with a Tiny Ika... Quote
bassman018 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Yea I love that too I mean I love frog fishing actually the most, It is my favorite lure. but the ultralght is amazing I mean It really does feel Like you have a monster everytime and It gives you a better fight too. Quote
bassman018 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 "Yeah, the large ones arent active. That is why you couldnt get them on a mepps." Is that sarcasm? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 24, 2011 Super User Posted February 24, 2011 "Yeah, the large ones arent active. That is why you couldnt get them on a mepps." Is that sarcasm? Can't slip anything past you, can he? Quote
