Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Had an early appointment so the ocean was out for me yesterday morning. On the way to the Dr's office I stopped at a canal that I haven't been to for at least 6 months, even though it's less than 10 minutes from where I live, almost always produces. Hit the canal right at sunrise, the moon, the stars, the barometer and even my horoscope was lined up, lol. Within 45 min to an hour maybe 10 bass caught all about 3-6# and I fished nothing but a top water plug. Being in the right place at the right time outweighs any lack of skill I have. Quote
OHIO Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Sounds great. Still makes me mad that you don't fish for bass much, but you catch 6 pounders. ;D Quote
1234567 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Funny how these little canals produce decent fish. I overlooked a canal for five years before realizing this. Anyways, what kind of retrieve were you doing ie. cadence, length of pause. I have not been doing well on topwater even though I havn't been trying it much lately. Thanks. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Pretty good outing for bass. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 27, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 27, 2011 A pop and a second or so pause, I don't much care for walking the dog. I went to a different canal this morning, this canal is n/g for topwater, don't know why. Wasn't as hot at yesterday but caught about 4 in an hour, pretty decent, 1 went about 2 lengths of a size 8 shoe. Ocean stunk today, 1 tiny jack so I left and went bass fishing. Quote

I only caught 22 fish in that weight range all last season, fishing nearly every day between end of March to end of November... ;D Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Try to repost your pics, they are not loading for me. Just kidding, I wish I could fish right now. Enjoy the weather. Quote

It's where you're at my friend. Quote
Shane Procell Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 SirSnookAlot, I dig the canals as well. I droped my boat in the canal that runs along Military Trail last month for the first time. That canal is loaded with nice bass. They were chunky and hungry. Never know what a lil body of water is holding. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 28, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 28, 2011 If I had a freshwater boat there is no doubt in my mind I would kill them out there, but I can't store one where I live. I'm in a partnership with 2 other guys, we rent for offshore, 24' Everglades $4200 dn, $100 a month for life or until they go out of business lol, total cost. No insurance, no marina charges, no hurricane storage, just gas and go, they clean the boat too. My guys just like to drift for offshore pelagic so I'm keeping my eyes open for 17 or 19' skiff just for casting in the ICW, several very reasonably priced marinas in the area for a small boat like that. Fish Chris Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Sounds fun ! My Stripers have been nice, but I'm getting a little anxious for some green and brown ones too Peace, Fish Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 Nice outing. Any bass (or just a wet line) would be nice right now. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted February 6, 2011 Super User Posted February 6, 2011 Too bad some Snook don't reside in those canal in higher numbers, nice outing ;D Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 6, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2011 No fresh water snook in my immediate area, at least I can't find them. The s41 lock is loaded with snook, tarpon and permit when the gates are open ( only accessable by boat ), but have yet to find any landlocked fish on the fresh side. Quote
1bigpapa Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Wow...really making me miss Florida more and more. Still ice on my closest lake and some of the rivers/streams. Enjoy the canals... Quote
