FlSnowman Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Just joined a BASS club and fishing my first tournament next month. My questions are: Do you use livewell treatment in your wells for every tournament you fish? If you only use it for certain tournaments/conditions when do you use it? What treatment do you prefer to use and why? Quote
fishermantony Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 The is a great video here on this site about using hydrogen peroxide in your live well. I've done it in a tourney and didn't loose any fish. Fish were very lively at weigh in. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 6, 2010 Super User Posted December 6, 2010 Catch n Release made by Sure Life Labs. Calms the fish, removes chlorine, etc. Best livewell treatment money can buy, without a doubt. http://www.sure-life.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=11&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=55 Quote
fishermantony Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Just watched that video again, very well spoken scientifically based explanation. He says 1 oz per 3 gals of water. Wonder what others think? Quote

Since you'll be fishing in South Florida the summer months can be challenging due to the high heat. When it gets really hot out (summer time) I put ice in my live well a few times throughout the day to keep the water cooler. But my live releases have greatly improved with the C&R, and the fish always look healthier at the end of the day. Quote
Hot Rod Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I beleive there was another thread on here that dicussed H2O2 regarding Hannon's promotion of it and a counter study that said H2O2 was almost always lethal to bass in the ratio Hannon suggested. Anyway, turns out the the study was done using a stronger concentration of H202 than the 3% Hannon advises to use (that is what you typically buy at the drug store). So the study was erroneous. Just thought I'd offer that. I usually have good results with just ice by following the B.A.S.S protocol. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 11, 2010 Super User Posted December 11, 2010 To help the fish especially in hot weather, obtain some Armaflex sheet insulation 1/2" and glue it to the underside of your livewell lid/s. If your boat has a built-in cooler, put it under the lid also. Quote
soopd Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Catch and Release and Please Release me. Watch the videos from sure life labs. In the summertime I use the same stuff but I have 8 one liter bottles that are frozen with water and a spoonful of catch and release in each one. I put a 10 lb bag of ice in livewell before getting to the ramp. As soon as I get close to my first location on the water I fill my livewell up (try to fill this up from deeper water, never at the boat ramp due to all the boats). I treat my livewell with the catch and release at this time as well. After I fill my livewell up the first time I don't get rid of that water, I just aerate the water that is in the livewell. About every 1 hour I drop one of the one liter bottles in the livewell with the top off. As the ice from the bottle melts it will release more of the catch and release. This might not be the correct way. However, I fished about 8 tournaments last summer with water temps well over 95 and I never lost any fish. Quote
