JamesH Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I keep hearing that our season is coming to an end soon here, so I went out today to try and hook up with a few more before the water hardens. I have only been bass fishing as a serious hobby for a couple years now so I figured I would go out and try on some of the winter techniques I have learned about. Well I only need one, the husky Jerk I started with. Weather.com Temp 32o with 6" of snow on the ground and snow still coming down. I didn't get a weight on this guy, really wish I would have. But when I go out it seems I have to always forget something and today was the scale. Just glad it wasn't the camera. I hooked up with another big girl that bull dogged me all the way. I got her to about 6' out when it gets really shallow and she pulled off and slowly swam away. I threw a tantrum then realized there was a woman about 20' from me taking pictures of the nice snowy lake back ground. She must of enjoyed that. Quote

nashontheriver Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 nice! i'm inspired to go try for some smallies on the river. Quote
JamesH Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 Thanks everyone. I was surprised to get so much action. All three of those bites came with in 10 minutes about 40 minutes before sun set. After landing the bigger fish I was too pumped up to worked the bait as slowly as I was before so I ended up leaving. 45 minutes fishing trip in the snow turned out all right. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 6, 2010 Super User Posted December 6, 2010 Nice fish, James! Quote

Super User senile1 Posted December 8, 2010 Super User Posted December 8, 2010 Cool. We don't get too many pictures of people fishing in the snow. Quote
TrippyJai Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 You're my hero !!!!!!!!!!!! +1 Can you give me some tips on how to work the bait? I can't catch a bass when the water gets cold and living up in Canada makes my season too short. Quote
whittler Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 A couple good winter bass there James. Best time of the year is whenever you get the time to fish. When most guys tell you that bass won't bite in 32deg. water it just means they are home by the fire. Nash, some of the best smallie fishing ni the state is right out your back door, this is float-n-fly time on the White river. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted December 18, 2010 Super User Posted December 18, 2010 Nice fish James,I gotta hand it to you for being out in that weather. Quote
JamesH Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Thanks again everyone. The weather was not to bad. I was dressed for it. TrippyJai, I was using a rapala husky jerk, a suspending jerk bait, and working it slowly. I was actually working it faster than I wanted but that was due to the chop on the water. The chop was bringing the bait back to me. So, I just would let it sit for about 10 seconds and reel up the slack then give the bait the slightest twitch then let it sit again. The fish where biting on the twitch. Quote
