When my outing involves catching a Smallie, I never know whether to post in the "Outings" section, or the "Smallie" section ? Hmmm.

Anyway, the fishing was pretty tough yesterday. Only caught two fish, but one was this beautiful, healthy 5.3 lb Smallie. I was 99% sure I caught it before... 1) just by looking at the size and the shape of the fish, and 2) because of the spot I caught her.

But looking at past photos just now, yes, this is the 5.5 I caught a few weeks ago. This time she bit a fly-lined crawler. Fought great on the micro-light :)

Oh yea..... I saw a freaking monster Northern strain Largemouth yesterday ! The lake record in this place is only 13.6, and I swear, I saw one that was 13 if it was an ounce ! Very bug-eyed and all ! Snuck back up that spot 3 X's, but couldn't get her to come have her pictures taken :(

Oh well. Maybe next time.

Oh.... and I did get blasted by an 8'ish Largemouth on the Hud. No hookup. But what made it extra cool, was that I had beached my boat, and I was standing high up on the shore when I made my cast. Suddenly, I see this big shadow (actually there were two, but this was the bigger, faster one) come racing towards my Hud, in the clear water, and then just blast the heck out of it ! Exciting to see, but I bet if I had no clue I was about to get hit, I'd have hooked and landed it. It's like you tense up, and start to swing, a split second too early.

Anyway, that was still pretty cool, and it wasn't a DD anyway, so not a huge loss.

Had fun :)

Peace,

Fish

That is a gorgeous smallie. If I see any more photos like this I'm going to have to relocate.

Great pic, as always.

Chris, do you put your fish in the livewell to bring out the colors?

Beautiful Fish for sure Chris....

Thank you guys :)

Hey SpeedBead, well, I do put them in my livewell to give me time to get the camera set on the tripod, and the scale out, etc..... but as far as giving the fish time to gain color, that can really go either way. I've seen fish come up beautiful like this one, then by the time I pull them out for photos, they are completely pale, or, completely dark.

Once in a while they will come out pale, or dark, then it's like they get PO'd from being held captive, and get all marked up, with contrast...

Anyway, it's nothing that I've been able to figure a definate pattern for.

Peace,

Fish

Beautiful Smallie.  Great post.  I totally know what you mean about tensing up when you know the strike is coming.  Once you see the fish it's almost like it becomes top water fishing in that you have to wait to really feel the fish before setting the hook.

Thanks again guys,

And hey DMB

Looks like that Smallie isn't the only one losing weight.

Thank you for noticing :) Yea', about 55 lbs, and geez, does it ever feel great ! Still working on getting all my cloths replaced.

Just yesterday I was showing off some old fish photos, to a guy who never knew / saw me before, and he says, "That's you ? Man, you've lost a BUNCH of weight" !

Anyway, the thing is, I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I just finally decided to change my whole way of (eating) life. So now, I'm on this big "hiking up hills" kick, and I think that will help too.

Peace,

Fish

That smallie has some crazy colors. It looks like the meanmouth we catch out of Table Rock sometimes. Awesome looking fish.

Doesn't look anything like a meanmouth.

Beautiful fish.  One of these days I really want to make my way up to some Smallmouth waters.  I constantly hear of how much fun they are to catch.

Man, not sure what you're better at, posting beautiful in-fisherman pictures or catchin monster bass. Well done as always.
