Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 20, 2010 Super User Posted October 20, 2010 I went down to the lake this evening, 1230am, for a little night fishing. I fished for about an hour an a half and caught a few from the bank. Nothing spectacular but quite enjoyable. My photography is horrible so some of the fish look a little weird. Bait used- Lake Fork Magic Shad. DETAILS Water visibility- 6-8 feet. Type line- braid, no mono leader. Depth fish caught- from 1'-15' Was I afraid of the gators and snakes?- No. Too busy having fun to worry about them. Afraid of the Boogie Man?- Only when I thought about him. Did I shower before getting in bed with the wife? Heck no ;D. Am I going again tomorrow night? Probably. Can you come with me? NO Quote

NO LOL I had been crushing bass on my golf course pond at night. I stopped those expeditions a couple weeks ago after stepping into a fire ant nest and getting bit about 40 times. I was sick for three days after (not 100% sure those bites were the cause, but I can't remember the last time I was sick before that) I also got bit by a banana spider out there two months ago...I still have the welt on my shoulder which I suspect is permanant unless I have it surgically removed. Alligators, snakes, spiders, fire ants, angry wifes...all kinds of dangers associated with night fishing in South Florida. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 20, 2010 Super User Posted October 20, 2010 Guess you finally got over that cold thats been going around I've become a big fan of that Tilapia colored Magic Shad. I need to order a few packs of the larger sizes next go around. The fish in that second picture looks like it needs to put on a few more pounds. Like Mike said, dealing with all the critters just makes for another normal evening down here. Fishing has been great in the pond that I've got lately. Put a lure in the Hydrilla and hold on. I love this time of the year. Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 20, 2010 Author Super User Posted October 20, 2010 S.Fl.BassAddict, Yea, my cold is over but I still have a little cough and stuffy nose. I had to get out last night when I got home from work, it was too nice of a night to pass up. I have used the the next size larger Lake Fork but find this size to work a little better. I have a hard time finding hooks for the bigger size. I believe I was using a 7/0 with them but the 7/0's hooks have too much weight on them. As far as critters go. I scanned the ground with my flashlight pretty good before standing in one spot. I also don't walk next to trees because I hate spider webs and spiders. I Quote

piscicidal Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Alligators, snakes, spiders, fire ants, angry wifes...all kinds of dangers associated with night fishing in South Florida. you forgot the mosquito. the king of annoying. Good point. There's recently been an encephalitis outbreak down here (South Florida)...mosquitos might well be the most dangerous of the (many) critters one might encounter one a night fishing trip, right now. Speaking of toothy critters encountered on night fishing trips...I got this guy last night. 26" snakehead. Caught four bass also, but small. Beautiful night, last night. Clear skies and big full moon... Quote
Five-Alive Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 good pics ........................... I hope the snakehead has drawn it's last breath. Quote
EIRunner Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Nice report, very thorough--next time include barometric pressure, water temp in F and C, and phase of moon please, plus color of pants and socks. Quote
EIRunner Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 PS-do you think that shad works better for sitting on your bike seat? Quote
