oteymc Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I had a great weekend planned, trout fishing on Sat, go check out Trophy Country on Sunday. I only live 2hrs from Trophy Country, never been there. When ghotti, RW, and Long Mike were booked to go a couple of weeks ago I so desperately wanted to go and meet those guys, ghotti had called me and ensured that I would be welcome. However, I couldn't get things worked out to come. So, I thought I would just go down by myself and check it out this weekend. I called Duke, the owner to let him know I was coming. He asked me how I heard about it, and I told him from this site and ghotti (used his real name). I said "I guess he's a pretty regular customer of yours, you know him?" He said "Yeah, he's here right now." Cool! So I gave ghotti a call, left a message that I was going to be down there on Sunday and hoped they would still be around so I could meet him. About ten minutes later, ghotti calls and asks if I can come Saturday instead. So, I rearranged things, met them down there on Sat. Left home at 4am, got to the cabin at 6, had breakfast and a good bs session with ghotti, his friend Steve, and his step son. Then ghotti and I head out to fish. This place is really something. They have pretty nice aluminum boats staked out at each location. They give you batteries, boat seats, a plug and a trolling motor, and you just go find where you want to fish. To change locations, you just take all your stuff and head to a new lake. The things I heard about it were dead on. We caught a lot of fish! Nothing huge, probably 80% of them were 2-21/2 lbs. Caught a couple 3-31/2. The fish there are soo strong. It got really windy, and we fought that some, but it was warm and sunny and over all a great day. (when your catching fish after fish, who cares if the wind is blowing!) Ghotti is a great guy, a good fisherman, and we had a lot of fun. Then we went back to the cabin for some fish-camp pasta, some re-hashing of the day, and I drove home. Thanks ghotti! Here are a few pictures: Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted October 19, 2010 Super User Posted October 19, 2010 oteymc, I hope you are a big man, because every time I fish with ghoti he is on the bow motor. At my end of the boat I am three feet off the water. ;D I'm glad you guys enjoyed yourselves and had a good catch. Be thankful you didn't have to fish with Steve. ;D Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted October 20, 2010 Super User Posted October 20, 2010 Glad you could make Otey. We had a good trip. A little bit warmer, and a bit less wind than two weeks ago. Otey is great young guy to share a boat with. He was out-fishing me until he ran out off those big green worms. This trip was my stepson Justin's birthday present. He and Steve had an awesome day Saturday fishing a pit they call The Islands. This one is about 600 acres, with so much structure it's hard to decide where to start. They both came back to the cabin a bit before 7, with sore wrists and bloody thumbs. That's what I'd call a good day. Otey and I fished pits called Lower Duck and Upper Duck; then moved to Long Lake, and finally to The Canal. We caught quite a few in the two "Ducks", did poorly in Long Lake, and finished up at the Canal. The fish in the picture was either 2 1/2 or 2 3/4, caught from Upper Duck on a PB&J shakey head worm. My biggest of the trip was 3 1/2, on a spinnerbait from the The Canal. Had something happen while at The Canal that I've never experienced. I had Super Fluke, rigged weightless. Had five fish come up on top, inhale the bait, and spit it right back out. After the first I added some MegaStrike. After the second I put on a new Fluke. After the third I tied on a new hook. They spit it out every time. never had that problem with a Fluke. Switched to a spinner bait and hammered "em. I caught 20+ nice bass between 4:30 and 6:00 on the spinner. Hey Mike; Otey is not a big guy, but, the back end of the boat was never more than 18" out of the water. You must be a real lightweight. ;D ;D ;D Leo, if I have to be known for something, that will do nicely. Quote
oteymc Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 The whole time I'm asking what's RW like? What's long mike like? How's glen to be around? He pretty much said your all a bunch of jerks......just kidding. It was a lot of fun! ghoti gave me the grand tour like I was his guest. It would be good to meet some more of the guys on here. Mike - one thing about fishing with Steve, you wouldn't have to think of things to talk about. Quote
KansasBassin Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I really like Trophy Country. I need to get out there again. I was there this summer when it was 100 degrees, and the fishing was still good. I need to get out there before the fall is over. Still should have a few good weeks left. Quote
