oteymc Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 A year ago, it had snowed twice already in Iowa. This year is a different story, 70s and 80s and lots of fishing! I have found a nice little lake about 10 acres within walking distance from my house. The setting is amazingly beautiful. I go there after work about 3 nights a week. I try to go to one of the area's small lakes (250 acres or bigger) on the weekends. I haven't been doing so well on the bigger ones, but this little lake has been pretty good to me. I usually catch a bunch of little ones and maybe one good one here and there. Tonight I had a little better night, I used a big black and blue jig (don't ask me why). Caught about 7 or 8 in an hour, and had a blast. I still didn't catch any huge ones, but most were solid 2 1/2 lbs or so. Missed a few too. Here's some pics of the lake and a couple of the fish. RobbyZ5001 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I wouldn't mind catching a few of those fish in that setting. Hell man, I wouldn't mind just casting a line there a few times a week. Very nice man. It sounds like you have yourself a little honey hole. Going to that lake after work sounds like therapy to. Quote
figure8racer Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Nice work man. Good to see a fellow Iowan here on the forums. I live in Indianola up in central Iowa. Is that a public spot or private? I've heard some good things about the lakes down there but most are from years past and i believe they did some work on one of the larger lakes down by Ottumwa recently so might turn in to an even better area. Last i knew the state record LM came from down there maybe closer to Bloomfield. Quote
oteymc Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 Figure8 - It is actually at the Izaak Walton club. You have to join the club to get to fish there, but it's not a big deal. The only meeting I have been to is when I joined, and it's a good organization to support. Yeah, they keep re-doing Lake Wapello. The state record did come from Lake Fischer in Bloomfield, but back in the early 80s I believe. Belva Deere is only 30 min, Sugema about 45, but they have not been good to me lately. This is a nice place to go after work to unwind, even with the short days I have still been getting an hour or so in. We are moving soon, so I will miss this place. I will still be spending a couple days a month here for work, so I will keep my membership. Quote
