mrbassky Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I have never seen a color be so hyped up. KVD was a genious using that color only in tournaments he won. I am sure its a good color dont get me wrong but come on. When can I get a sexy shad crawdad. Quote
Matt 825 Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I agree with Mrbassky the whole "sexy shad" color and all the recent knock offs are a little over the top. It is not some secret end all be all color, what it is, is a brilliant marketing strategy. Quote

I can agree here....The Sexy shad redeye was a big producer for me this year Its a good color but a Tenn shad pattern likely would have worked as well. How much confidence did you have in the sexy shad color? my guess is alot. And how much did you throw it? Again ALOT. My bold prediction if everybody throws sexy shad crankbaits alot of fish and alot of money will be won on sexy shad crankbaits. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted December 10, 2008 Super User Posted December 10, 2008 All I know is, this past season there were some days when I threw everything else, with no fish. I put on my Sexy Shad Redeye and picked up a few fish with it............it's not just marketing. Falcon Quote
Super User CWB Posted December 10, 2008 Super User Posted December 10, 2008 Can I be your Buddy? Anyway, I love the color. Usually first I tie on in all but darkest water. Quote
Simp Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 We should make a "what to get your fishing buddy for Xmas" thread. I've looked threw my BPS mags several times for ideas and I have a $10 gift card for Dicks I could use. I thought about a baitcaster but he prefers spinning reels and he has tons of those. So I'm thinking about a lure kit or the new Spro swimbait. Any ideas?? Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I wonder if I can get my car professionally painted in this 'sexy shad' pattern? Might be dangerous, wouldn't want my windows busted out by bass that leap towards my car when I drive over bridges. Quote

With a bait that big you might only catch a fish or two a year but the ones you do catch will be HUGE!! Quote

Too many factors to say it was the bait let alone color. Start catching fish on the sexy shad then change to a similar color and see if you keep catching them as well that might be a better inidicator. Quote
rboat Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I think it is a good color, but not better than others. Even KVD himself said in his seminar color is last, after location, presentation, structure & cover, baitfish or prey items, weather conditions, seasonal patterns, and water clarity. Color is then chosen to match the exact conditions you have and may change with those conditions. Light or dark and flash or no flash is more important than an exact color of lure. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 10, 2008 Super User Posted December 10, 2008 If it gives you the confidence you need you need to be throwing it. I too have seen it make a big difference. Quote
kbkindle Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 you know this confidence thing gets me you know when you get confidence is when you catch fish with the lure you are using. to me cofidence is not a think before you catch fish but after you catch fish with any lure Quote

You might want to paint the bottom of your boat in that pattern, that way you can just drive out any ol' place on the lake and when you hear the clunk on the bottom of the boat, you know they are around. Great idea! I was going to buy a sonar unit, but I think I'll just paint the bottom of my boat. It'll be cheaper. <G> Quote

I bought just one of the RedEye Shads in Sexy Shad last spring and that's about the only CB I ended up throwing. Bass absolutely wore that lure out on Ky Lake. Guess I'll have to pick up a couple more 8-) Quote

A black plastic worm works great for a lot of people too so go ahead and paint a picture of a worm on your boat to! unless thats just hype too : Quote
Bass Dude Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 This Sexy Shad business is crazy!!!!! Lucky Craft has had that color out long before Strike King put it out, it used to be called Chartreuse Shad. Don't get me wrong, it's a good color, but no better or worse than any other. It should be added to your arsenal and used just as your other lures---when the conditions dictate. IMHO Quote
SoFl-native Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 hahaha.....sexy shad. A perfect illustration of how colors are made more for fishermen than fish. In regards to the kit......i would never want that many lures in the same color. Quote

IMHO I bet someone is going to say that the chartreuse shad color is different from the sexy shad color. There is no way in the world a fish can tell difference between the two, unless he has microscopic vision. Daiwa sells a very similar color but it's called threadfin shad. Jackall also has a chartreuse shad. Quote
Jake. Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Why don't they just come out with a full assortment of Sexy Shad hooks, that way you won't even need any Sexy Shad lures. : Quote
Super User burleytog Posted December 12, 2008 Super User Posted December 12, 2008 Ask Jimzee about the sexy shad pattern. 8-) Quote
drmnbig Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I have made enough hints that Santa should be leaving one under the tree this year. BTW, I hooked but lost the biggest bass of my life on one of these just a few weeks ago. Quote

I think the paintjobs are poor and lack any real effort and there is almost always imperfections and bumps on the baits but those are quality looking baits there, im gonna hunt one down! Quote
