I spent all day on the water today. I threw the following:

Soft Stickbaits(3 Fish caught,biggest being about 2#'s)

Deep Diving Crankbaits (hooked a Dink but lost it at the boat)

Tried a Live Craw and had a fish just about pull my rod into the water(Not a huge fish, but struck the craw like a sledgehammer)

I also threw my ol reliable Dropshot and caught wwhat may be my new PB. I havent caught a fish this size in years so it may or may not be bigger than my previous PB.

I was using a Daiwa Medium-Light action rod with a Daiwa Spinning reel. 30#braid with an 8# Fluorocarbon leader. A #2 Stainless Octopus/circle hook and a 4 inch swimmin grub from a Japanese company.

The fish pulled like a train, jumped out of the water once and had me adjusting my drag the entire fight. I felt like Mike Iaconelli, and how he works his fish on a spinning outfit.

Im guessing this fish went somewhere in the neighborhood of 5#+. Or am I just being too generous. Be realistic, what might this fish have weighed?

Ya know I was excited to land that fish, but even more excited to see it swim away. I didnt let out the "yee-haw" until it was out of my sight. Then I knew all was well.I was satisfied and the fish was gonna be alright.

There was a little more daylight left, but after stickin that fish I called it quits, with the excitement I was exhausted. I mean how can you top that after fishing all day long and only catching 3 others that were smaller than 1#?

Im so used to catching sub 2# fish, this was a very welcome surprise.

In the words of the famous Rapper ICE CUBE..."Today was a good day..."

Nice.

Seriously though, with as much time as you spend on Ebay buying things (based on your questions in the Tackle Forum) you really should have a scale by now.

Even something cheap is better than nothing...

Nice fish!  I never forget the DS.  Matter of fact, I'm going to try it for monster trout up here in Alaska.  I bet very few, or nobody, have tried it.  We'll see how it goes.  Again, congrats!!!

Yea, I'll never forget when I told you I was going to try it on our trip and you said "I don't know about you but I'm throwing the sammy."  Changed your mind after I brought one in on the second cast!  Lost a good one with it on Sat

messing with my drag.  I love that technique and am going to try so many different things with it.

Nice fish...as far as never forgetting the drop shot, it is the first rod in the boat no matter the time of year.  I seem to throw a drop shot everywhere, from 2 ft. deep to 40 ft. deep and in open water to heavy cover.  Great technique!

way to go. when your catchin fish like that and the average fish is under 2lbs its def a good time to pat yourself on the back, i grew up in northwest indiana and the bass dont get very big in that area and a 5lber is like catching a 10lb plus here in socal.

LOL!  Yeah, and we slayed 'em that day.  Matter of fact, it was about this time last year, wasn't it?
