Vinny Chase Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I have caught 8 muskies in my life and 3 of them have come this year, including 2 that have broke off! I caught this one on a deep crankbait (of course). One thing i do know is that i need to give me girlfriend some netting lessons. Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Ridiculous!!! If I ever catch a Musky that size I will instantly retire from fishing lol!!! Quote
Vinny Chase Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Gotarheelz, I'm telling you right now you need to take a trip up to Mill Lacs, MN and go on a guided Muskie trip at least once in your life. You will catch some HUGE 50 in muskies, but i am warning you once you catch one you will be hooked. The fight is one of a kind. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 24, 2010 Super User Posted August 24, 2010 I'm really hoping to catch my first musky this year. It's a little warm now but should be prime musky time here in a month or two. Is that a tiger musky? Quote

Is that a tiger musky? Yes sir it is. I lost another one tonight fishing for bass, broke off my favorite norman! Good luck to you on that muskie. Once you get your first you are HOOKED for life. hookingem Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 That thing must have fought like crazy! Just out of curiosity did you catch that thing on light mono? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 That thing must have fought like crazy! Just out of curiosity did you catch that thing on light mono? I actually caught it on 12# P-line CXX. At first, like all my muskies, it felt like a log and then just took off! It was a thrill to say the least. Quote
hookingem Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Thats just pure awesome! Did you get a weight on it? Quote
Randall Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Nice fish. I like the patterns and colors on that one. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Thanks guys! No didnt get a weight on it i usually try and at least get a measurement, but the hook took some time to get out so the first thing after the picture was to get him back into the water. Quote
Big Tom Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 That is a beautiful fish, man. I am hoping to have caught one or more by the end of the year. Quote
Red Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Nice lookin fish! I caught one about that size when I lived in MN. The thing ate my 10 inch walleye I was reeling in. I was using light tackle with 6lb mono. Took a looong time to land it. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Vinny, question for you... I would not think you guys would have tigers up there, why did they stock those and not just intoduce a strain of musky or northern? Just curious, thanks! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 25, 2010 Super User Posted August 25, 2010 They stock them for various reasons. Tiger muskies are sterile, so they do not reproduce, and when they're done, they're gone. They keep panfish populations in check. Quote

They keep panfish populations in check. Agreed. I guess just more curious on why not just stock a musky (yeah) or northern (boo) strain there, and not spend the money at a hachery...I guess it could be a thousand reasons really, but I know in my home lake when the swayed from the tigers and introduced the pure bloods sizes went up (obviously) and money was spent on a dam correction and not to a hatchery. Oh well, tigers are a great match on bass tackle anyday! Thanks Ron Quote
Vinny Chase Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 Thats a great question Nice Bass. Honestly i really do not know but i think it has to do with the size of our lake (small) and like others said keeping everything in check. I believe thats what keeps bass fishing so great! Quote

As always, there are exceptions to the rule. Got this dude speedtrolling a spoonplug in 25 feet of water. Quote
The one that got away Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Good pic and great fish. I have only hooked into one musky, happened last fall, but didn't have him on for too long. Hope to get one for myself in the future. Congrats on yours. Quote
NateFollmer Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 What color was your crank? Do they like the chartreuses and greens? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 What color was your crank? Do they like the chartreuses and greens? All the crankbaits i have used when catching muskies have had a chartreuse based color. The one below has caught a majority of my muskies. Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 4, 2010 Super User Posted September 4, 2010 I've caught almost all of my big muskies on these: http://www.buckperry.com/index.php?cPath=83_187_141&page=1&sort=2a http://www.buckperry.com/index.php?cPath=83_187_140&page=1&sort=2a Size 100 or 700 speedtrolling. Quote
