MakhuluBass Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 With summer in full force, I am looking at targeting bass in the 20+ft range on crank. What cranks are available that reach this depth other than: 1) DD22 2) Strike King series 6 3) Mann's 20 & 30+ 4) Jackall 15+ 5)Poe's 4500 :-/ Quote
zbass Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I know this may sound strange, but try a shallow diver or medium diver on a carolina rig. I did this as a joke one summer and I'll be dam@# if it didn't work. Not just once either. Quote

My favorites are the Norman DD22's but they only have a maximum depth of about 16 feet. Luhr-Jensen makes a crank called a Hotlips or brush baby, somethng like that. I had a few of them, they caught fish. The larger models would hit 15+ feet. Quote
Bass Dude Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Bomber Fat-Free Shads come in deep divers. AWESOME bait--just aske Timmy Horton !!! Quote
Steven Ladner Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Those fat free shads really are awesome baits. They are tournament winners. Quote
mrbassky Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 You didnt mention the deepest diving crankbait there is. The 3/4 oz hot lips express by LurJensen. Also Lucky Craft makes some good deep divers. But the best are WEC crankbaits. I said too much. :-X Quote
bedman Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I have to second the 3/4 oz. hot lips is a real good bait. I don't think the fish see it as much as other crankbaits and it is underrated. It can also be very difficult to find. The Fat Free Shad is also fantastic. I fish it on 10 lb. flourocarbon so that it will reach its maximum depth. Quote
TrippyJai Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Fat free shads are great... you can have a really slow retrieve with them and they still have a great action. They are fish catchers!! Quote
Stringjam Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 If you're targeting fish over 20', there are only a handful of cranks that will actually do it. The Poe's 4500 LR, which you mentioned not to mention (even though it's one of the best out there).. 3/4 Hot Lips Express from LJ - - pulls kinda like an anchor, but it'll get down. Big M Cedar Custom.....I can get into the low 20's with that bait. I'm pretty stoked to try out the Rapala DT-20 as well.... Tiemco Mad Pepper Magnum & LC Flat CB20 will get in that range - - but I don't have enough experience using either to recommend them. I think I'll give the Mad Pepper another try this year. Quote
