Favorite topwater pattern

For a topwater lures like walkers, poppers, chuggers or propbaits what is your favorite color pattern for early - mid summer?

I know shad has to be one of em. How about baby bass or bluegill, better in spring?

I prefer prop baits, specifically the smithwick devil's horse. I throw this bait all year. It is tied on to one of my poles everytime I go fishing. Pattern doesn't matter the bass will almost always hit this lure. There is a guy down here in florida called topwater charlie and this is the only bait he fishes.

IMO, color matters very little.  Less in topwater than anyother application.

I usually throw these 3 baits.

Zara Spook - baby bass

Heddon split'n image - bluegill

rapala skitter pop - shad

I will catch fish on at least 1 of them usually.

Jitterbug, 5/80unce. Over coon-tail or hydrilla beds that the weed tops are a few feet below the water. Working the bug parallel to the shore line

Spook, Gunfish, Sammy, Jitterbug, Spitin' Image, Devil Horse, whatever they are biting I like.  Baby bass, chrome, Aurora, Chart. Shad.

I like anything black.

Far as I can figure, it really doesn't matter with topwater. Its gonna look black to them from below no matter what color it is.

Just to be safe, I like anything with a white belly in the day, black at night. But any color will most likely do.

The color green in general, Baby Bass or Frog patterns in particular.

It's hard for me to to comment on other colors. I own at least ten

different colored Spooks for example, but except for pool testing when

they were first purchased, nine have never been wet!

I tend to stay with natural colors like shad, perch etc.

Most if the water I fish is Gin clear.

Most of my topwaters and I throw a wide variety of them have a transluscent bottom (for clear water/ clear skies), a chrome bottom or are white with the occasional black Jitterbug for night fishing.

Anything with a white belly. That can imitate a shad, frog, shiner, even small bluegill.

I recall having consistent results with a white Heddon Tiny Torpedo with a red head.  This caught several types of bass in early spring all the way through mid-summer when fished early in the morning.  Highly reflective finishes (chrome with black back) and Natural Finishes seemed to work best the rest of the day and much farther into the year at least through late fall.  I know this isn't a pattern but I've had good luck with broken back rapala's with natural finishes very recently

Agreed, good lure, I look for white or orange bellies on all topwater lures

Dont overlook buzzbaits either. they produce for me in early summer. i like white the best

My goto topwater is a baby bass colored PopR.  One thing I do change on them is to remove the stock rear hook and replace it with a red feathered replacement hook for the X-raps.

The one top water lure that I use a lot is Heddon torpedo it's a old fashion lure that I seem to always catch fish with spring till fall.  I use Buzz baits a lot at night something loud to get a reaction strike. I love them explosive top water strikes. I mostly stick with black or shad color but, this past summer I was trying different colors and for some reason in the lakes and reservoirs I stuck to black but in the ponds and rivers I was getting more strikes off of white or more natural looking colors.

Bright colors for rainy or overcast days, white or silver for clear/blue-sky days, and black or dark hues for nighttime. (The same principle applies to muddy, stained, or clear water).  Or whatever you feel confident with.
