BassFishingMachine Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 If any of you guys got any early fishing gear gifts, lets see em! I need to keep myself busy, to keep this darn cabin fever at bay! > Quote
U.W BronzeBack Hunter Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 looks like you hit the jackpot! "early" christmas gifts i received/bought: 4 new baitcast reels 20 jigs about 10 crankbaits/jerkbaits 3 poppers 1 spinning rod 5 bags of soft plastics soft plastic hook kit 2 rattlebaits and now maybe another spinning reel combo Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 Yeah, I probably spent around the same Bronzeback. I bought alot of striper plugs too since I've really been getting into surf fishing lately. I'd post pics, but didn't think anyone would be interested in em. Quote
U.W BronzeBack Hunter Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Are some of your new crankbaits Lucky Crafts? Quote
KevO Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I've got a shimano chronarch 50MG, Shimano Crucial 7' MHF, 15 lucky craft pointers, and some random baits I've bought for myself. Too bad I can't use any of that stuff for another week. Quote

Strike King Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Great Topic !! Well Xmas came a little early for me as well. I got a Quantum Energy pt a Field & Stream 7ft IM7 and a 7ft All-Star spinning rod. i hope the next thing to get is a early spring Quote
U.W BronzeBack Hunter Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Are some of your new crankbaits Lucky Crafts? 4/6 of them i need to get me some of those lucky crafts... but they're just too d@#n expensive. My philosophy is, with the money i spend for one lucky craft crankbait, i can get 6 bomber crankbaits of a spectrum of colors and sizes. do they actually catch more fish? or is it just a baitmonkey placebo effect? Simp Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Great Topic !!Well Xmas came a little early for me as well. I have that same rod, length, IM7 and everything. It has a flaw you should keep in mind. I have broken the cork knob off at the end on two of them this year. Granted I was frog fishing and putting it under some serious stress but I recommend you keep your hand high enough on the cork handle that your lower hand isn't hitting the "knob" or where the cork changes at the end of the rod. Oh it handled a ton of hawgs for me this summer! I fish allot of ponds with tons of grass and so I really let loose on heaving my frogs. I'd also use my stomach as a butt on some viscous hook sets that led to one breaking on a hook set. This was the only problem I had with this rod and Dicks was good to me with exchanges. One thing you could do would be to take your receipt in and add the warranty coverage for like $5. That way if you have a problem they just mail you a gift card for the original purchase price. IMHO it's a fairly good low price rod but I do consider the knob to be a defect in the overall design and not a isolated problem. Like I said though as long as your aware of it you will probably be ok. I never mistreated the rods that broke but I certainly put them in a situation where allot of stress and force was used often in hauling many 5+ pound fish out of HEAVY vegetation. Including the 6 punder in my Bio pic. Quote

OK SIMP 2 THINGS !!!! 1 - thanks for the heads up :-) 2 - take me fishing with you!! 8-) well i havent taken any tags off the rod yet so maybe i'll take it back?? the rod looks good and is a good price. if it handles the big bass you catch its gotta be alright for the most part. Dicks has another model IM7 that was $10 more, i wonder if it has the same prob? Quote

While if it's cork don't bother and just keep on eye on your hand placement. Now if you want to get some hawgs this summer I'd recommend you buy the Dean Rojas spro frog learn to walk it then find some grass! Quote
