SWH Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I have never been much good at fishing with soft plastics because i was never able to catch anything. I always used spinners, cranks, lip-less, and jerk baits. I decided a week or two weeks ago to throw one since i had a little extra time on the water than normal. I bought some 3/0 hooks with a weight on it. I rigged a baby bass super fluke weightless and cast out hoping for new results. As soon as the fluke hit the bottom my line starts ripping. All the sudden a really upset small large mouth bass flew outta the water jumping at least 1.5 feet. I got her in and like i said she was small maybe 1.5lbs. than i caught two more and they got off. First time i had fought more than one fish in a day since i can normally only find an hour to two hours to fish and i cant seem to get multiples on my trips. I went out again last night and cast to a tree overhanging the water and on the fall i see my line moving and reel in a WAM fish on. I got a great fight and she was about 2.5 lbs i would guess. All things considered i will be using and purchasing more soft plastics as i now know not only do they catch fish (which i knew but never could do it myself) but now i knew i could do it. A very good feeling when you find a new bait that will work in the rotation of finding the fish. here is a picture of the one from last night. Quote
Big-O Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I think the more you fish Softies, the more you'll like'em Nice fish too Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
hookset on 3 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 That's Great! with some practice, you'll be landing them left and right. Quote
evrgladesbasser Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Soft plastics have always been my go-to bait no matter what the conditions...... I always have had luck. I'm in the opposite boat as you, so to speak, just recently starting experimenting with jigs, cranks, and spinners. Caught a few on cranks, several bites with no lands on the spinners, and nothing on jigs yet. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 You may not catch numers on plastics but your size will surely increase, keep it up you may be surprised. Quote
tmorgz Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Flukes and 7" ribbontails are my go to lures. They always seem to come through. Keep it up! Quote
procraft210 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 i keep a pearl white fluke rigged almost all year Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 14, 2010 Super User Posted May 14, 2010 Please read the articles on plastics. Learn how to fish Senkos, too. Visit GY's web site for additional information. Consider adding scent to your plastics. We always debate if scent actually helps but it can't hurt. Check out wacky and shaky head rigs along with the Drop Shot technique. You may be pleasantly surprised at your results. Good luck and keep us posted on your fishing excursions. Quote
InLikeFinz Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I too have reaped the rewards from Flukes this year. Wouldn't leave home without them now. Quote
Vboards1 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I'm young only 15 and just started fishing about 2 months ago. I was like soft plastics are ehhh. I always had my inline spinners and spinners on. One day I was fishing with my dad, grandpa, and little brother with a strike king mini spinner in white and yellow. It was a slow day only 2 tilapia and then all of the sudden I get a huge hit 3 feet from the shoreline and I saw the fish and didn't know what it was. I lost it and was pretty upset but then 2 casts later it was the same fish and it was big. It was a 7 pounder even!! I was stoked and so excited seeing that I have never really been bass fishing except for one other time and I caught a 5 pounder then but this was what got me hooked. Anyways it was a beast and I was thinking to myself "spinnerbaits for life". But I was fishing with this guy who always fishes where I fish and he rigged me up with a strike king shim - e - stick. First three casts I missed two and one got off. I left rite then to go get more soft plastics. I caught another 7 pounder last weekend. I have cellphone pics but don't know how to get them on here but man they were big!! Thanks for listening Quote
