Super User slonezp Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 I've been fishing tourneys with my son on the Fox Chain of Lakes in Northern Illinois for 5 years, 4 years with this particular club. Never got better than 10th place, in a 35 boat average outing. Until today! I had prefished 3 days in the last week and new where the fish were. Weather conditions had changed dramaticly from bluebird skies and calm wind to 20mph winds and rain on tournament day. I had told my son I know where we can catch a limit ( because of prefishing). Since I don't own one of those 80mph bass boats and my boats top speed is 40mph in perfect conditions, by the time we got to the "magic" spot there was already 3 boats fishing there. We went to anoter spot close by and picked up a small keeper. Went to another area and were unsuccessful at coaxing a bedding fish. Finally went back into the spot I originaly wanted to fish. All but 1 boat had left. My son picked up a 3.22lb which would be our biggest for the day and nothing else. I gave him the option. We can go north where the water is gin clear and the fish are spooky or go south where the water is stained and the fish are on the small side. He chose north. Not a good choice. Had 1 bite and lost it, a small keeper. After 2.5 hours, I got fed up and took us south. We got are last three keepers along with a bunch of shorts in about 1.5 hours, and nothing after that. My son the pessimist had nothing good to say back to the weigh-in. I kept telling him "If it's tuff for us it's tuff for everyone. We weighed in a limit at 9.90lbs, and got bumped from 2nd place@ 9.92lbs. First place was a 14lb+bag and only 4 boats brought in a limit. That .02lbs we lost by was worth an extra $250. What a bit**. Anyway we came in 3rd out of 39 boats. I have won small tourneys on small lakes, but getting 3rd place in this trail is a great feeling. Next tourney in 2 weeks. Quote
