Randall Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I haven't' had time to get out and do much fishing personally this month or post much here. Been a real busy month for me. But I have been fishing two lakes that have produced a few big ones. Bear Creek is a reservoir that just opened last fall. It is near Athens GA and had a lot controversy and delay in getting it opened to the public. The bass have been growing with little fishing pressure for years. The fear most had was that the lake would be full of stunted small bass and it would never be able to reach it's full potential. Well, I was happy to find some big bass on top of numbers of quality size bass when I started fishing it. We have had a few good days with over 50 fish caught and most of those were good size fish with a big one here and there. I have also seen some giants in the clear water there way bigger than any of the photos above. It has quickly become my favorite lake. I also got to go out with Georgia Outdoor News editor Nick Carter and fish the lake for a few hours one morning. The article he wrote will be in the May issue and I did get lucky enough to stick a good one for a good photo to go along with the article. I have also been fishing lake Varner. It has had a delayed spawn and for the most part the fish there are mostly pre spawn and have been for about two months. There have been a few big ones move up and spawn but just not many overall. For the most part we have been catching them on trickworms, senko type baits and swimbaits. The first photo was caught from Varner on a senko type bait just a few days ago. I am hoping for some nice warm weather for the next full moon coming up to get a huge spawn going. Quote
