J-B Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Here are a couple pics of my first LMB caught on a Mop-Jig. I am not sure of the weight so I am guessing about 6-7 pounds. EDIT: I forgot to say that this is the first bass I have ever caught on a jig. Quote
aarogb Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Nice!!! If you don't mind me asking, what jig trailer were you using? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 8, 2010 Super User Posted April 8, 2010 Very nice fish. I like the presentation, too! GMAN builds a nice Mop head. I'm fishing his 3/4 oz football head, black. The trailer is a Rage Tail Lobster, blue. In the water it appears to be the size of a softball. 8-) Quote
J-B Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 Nice!!! If you don't mind me asking, what jig trailer were you using? After looking at it, I am sorry, I do not remember what they are called. It has the body of an * Beaver Craw but has two small paddles and one big paddle for arms instead of claws. In the water it appears to be the size of a softball. 8-) I have to agree with that. Quote
MaineBassMan Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Congrats! nice jig and nice looking bass, but I do think you should add a nice scale to your arsenal. I'd say that bass is closer to 5 pounds. Still an awesome bass. Of course I've been wrong before ;D Quote

Still an awesome bass. Of course I've been wrong before ;D That could be true. I was just guessing at the weight. I am a big boy at 264lbs and I am holding that fish right next to me, not extended out towards the camera. I had never caught anything on a jig before so I only had my jigs with me this time. I managed to catch 4 bass on jigs over the past 3 days. It feels good. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 That is a great first jig fish. Congrats!!! There will be more. Quote
ichigo Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 the carbonlite rod you using is any good for that bass or what? Quote
J-B Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 the carbonlite rod you using is any good for that bass or what? Man, that rod is awesome. I am slowly replacing all my SC rods with them. I just got another one along with the carbonlite reel and I love it. I am going to put my 2 Johnny Morris Silver reels that I have only had a few months up for sale very soon so that I can get 2 more carbonlite reels. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 8, 2010 Super User Posted April 8, 2010 Very nice. Larger bass have a thing for jigs. GMAN is right -there will be more. Quote
Dave D Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Congrats! I'm hoping to check off the first jig fish this year as well! Quote
MaineBassMan Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Ya, I know pictures can be deceiving. He probably is closer to 6. I have that same exact rod and I love it!! Quote
looking4structure Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Nice fish. The jig bite is addicting.I love flipping jigs and I can still remember my first jig fish.Way to go bud. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Nice fish right there. I'm still trying hard to get my first real jig fish. Catching them on swim jigs just doesn't seem to count for me. And yes, the Carbonlite rods and reels are pretty nice. I've got one with the rod and reel for casting as well as a ML carbonlite spinning rod that I picked up a couple of days ago that I LOVE. For anybody wondering, they're sensitive enough that I can feel a wacky worm wiggling in the water as it drops. Great job, hopefully I'll grab some of your mojo and nail me a good jig fish in the next few days. Quote
J-B Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 SoFlaBassAddict, you will catch them. As for the reels, I have 3 of the carbonlite reels now and I love them. Those buggers cast an easy country mile. I got rid of my Johnny Morris Signature series reels so I could buy a couple more carbonlite reels. Thank you to all for the comments on the fish. It felt great to finally catch one on a jig and a good one at that. John Quote
Incheon Basser Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Congrats man... my avitar fish which is mypersonal best was a jig fish. 6lbs 9oz on a xtools scale... I didn't like jigs at first but after I caught my first fish on one it's hard to put down... it's like you don't catch anything at first then once catch one the flood gates open and it becomes your goto bait Quote
Big-O Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 EDIT: I forgot to say that this is the first bass I have ever caught on a jig. For Sure J-B.....it won't be your last WTG Man Big O www.ragetail.com Quote

BASSMAN757 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Nice jig fish man i definitely need to work on my jig skills Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Great fish! I hung my first jig fish this season in March, 5 days after ice out. I was pretty stoked. Jigs are incredibly addicting. I hope I don't fall in love with it to the point where I throw it when the conditions favor something else. Quote
